TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE FOR THE ARRIVAL OF THE YOUTH CROSS AND THE BLOOD RELIC OF POPE JOHN

PAUL II

THE TRIUMPH OF CROSS

February 22, 2019

(All lights are dim inside the Church. The Youth Cross and Blood Relic is placed in the center of the sanctuary, surrounded by
candles.)

(As you enter, you are encouraged to keep silent, to reflect and prepare for worship. Please feel free to enter fully into the prayer.
Worship is quiet and reflective, deeply peaceful and joyful, including four-part harmony chants in different languages, silences,
prayers, and readings. In terms of the singing, you are encouraged to listen to the tune, to follow the music provided, and to join
in singing the harmonies if that is your preference. It encourages us to pray in the mind with the heart, and to wait in
contemplation. It is beautiful in its simplicity and depth.)

Scripture Reading:

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians (Phil 2:6-11)

Brothers and sisters:

Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.
Rather, he emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
coming in human likeness;
and found human in appearance,
he humbled himself,
becoming obedient to death,
even death on a cross.
Because of this, God greatly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name
that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus, Remember Me:

Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness. In your compassion blot out my offense.
O wash me more and more from my guilt and cleanse me from my sin.

My offenses truly I know them; my sin is always before me.

Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your sight I have done.

Indeed you love truth in the heart; then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.
O purify me, then I shall be clean; O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow.

A pure heart create for me, O God, put a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence, nor deprive me of your holy spirit.

(Brief Silence)
God is Forgiveness

Fil: Diyos ay pag-ibig, sa iyong puso, siya’y nananahan. Diyos ay pag-ibig, sa iyong puso, siya’y
nananahan.

Gospel:

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John (Jn 3:13-17)

Jesus said to Nicodemus:

"No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.

Prayer:
Eternal Father, through your strength and love, you overcame the darkness of suffering and death for all
of us. In our own times of trouble we know we can call out to you and that you will answer us. When hurt
and uncertainty close in on us, let there be room in our hearts for faith. Dissolve our fears, and renew
within us the spirit of trust and peace. Bless us with your healing so that we can witness your light and
love to others, especially those whose pain and trials are far greater than our own. We ask this of who
lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
