Ephesians 1:4
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ
Chosen
Isn’t that amazing to consider? That before the earth was made we were already
loved and chosen? God says in Jeremiah, “I knew you before I formed you in your
mother’s womb.” It’s important to consider the care and love with which each of us were
created. None of us are an afterthought. None of us were created on a whim. None of us
are an accident. We are all God’s beloved people and we always have been. We each
have purpose and have been created to do good things. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are
God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things
he planned for us long ago.”
You may not be created for greatness. You may not be created to change the
world. However, your good works are important to God. God created you for the good
you can do through him. Maybe as you age, you feel less and less useful. God created
you to provide wisdom and guidance to the generations. Maybe it’s hard to get going in
the morning and pain slows you down. God created you to be a witness of perseverance
and faith even as our broken bodies fail us. 2 Corinthians 4:7 says, “We now have this
light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great
treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” Yes,
we are like fragile, clay jars but God’s love and grace and power shines from us in our
weakness. And we are given power from God that makes us capable even when we aren’t
capable ourselves.
So examine yourself anew in light of how God sees you. You are an integral part of
God’s purposes. You are created for good works that were planned for you long ago. You
are a masterpiece of God’s own creation. You are not an afterthought, nor were you
created on a whim. But instead, God was working to create you even before the
foundations of the earth were laid. So believe and trust in God. Surrender to Jesus Christ
as your Lord and receive power. Allow God to adopt you into his loving family of
believers everywhere. He will raise you up. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who trust in the
Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and
not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Amen.

My Eagle Scout Project is a Ten Commandments

“Rock Garden” at Camp Pecometh in Centreville.
Picture ten stone (concrete) tablets each with one
of the Ten Commandments placed in a semi-circle
on the hillside with a single center stone which
says “Moses came down from the mountain
bringing the words of God.” The hillside site is right at the edge of the parking lot by the
riverfront. The tablets will be surrounded by a green steel border and filled in with
offsetting blue/grey decorative stone.

I have had the great fortune of attending Camp Pecometh many times in the past.
For many of us on the Eastern Shore, Camp Pecometh is more than just an institution; it’s
a lifetime of fond memories. It is my hope to give something back for all that the camp has
given me. If we can inspire the younger campers for years to come with immortal words
from the Bible, the time, energy, and funds will be well spent.
