The types and descriptions of curricula in schools

Include lecture on the types and descriptions of curricula in schools.

1. Recommended Curriculum–it identifies the skills, concepts and content that will be
emphasized throughout the learning process. A recommended curriculum is often
presented by the authority to schools as a policy recommendation with a list of goals
and a sequence content that suggest the graduation requirements.

2. Written Curriculum–This refers to a lesson plan or syllabus written by teachers.

Another examples is the one written by curriculum experts with the help of subjects
teachers. This kind of written curriculum needs to be pilot tested or tired out in sample
schools to determine its effectiveness.

3. Taught Curriculum–That is delivered by the teachers to the students. Taking the

students into consideration, they decide how to achieve the intended learning
outcomes. They decide the distribution of time to a particular activity/content.

4. Supported Curriculum–Is the curriculum supported by available resources. Such

resources include both human (teachers) as well as physical (such as textbooks,
workbooks, audio visual aids, teacher guides, grounds, buildings, library books and
laboratory equipment).
5. Assessed Curriculum–The curriculum that is reflected by the assessment or
evaluation of the learners is called the Assessed Curriculum. It includes both formative
and summative evaluation of learners conducted by teachers, schools, or external
organizations.

6. Learned Curriculum–all the changes occurred in the learners due to their school
experience ar e called the Learner Curriculum. It is the curriculum that a learner absorbs
or makes sense of as a result of interaction with the teacher, class-fellows or the
institution.

7. Hidden/Implicit Curriculum–A hidden curriculum is a side effect of schooling, which

are learned but not openly intended such as the transmission of norms, values, and
beliefs conveyed in the classroom and the social environment. It should be mentioned
that the break time is an important part of the hidden curriculum.

How important is the VMCVG in designing the curriculum

School’s vision, mission, core values and goals are very important in designing the
curriculum because through these the teacher will know what is the institutional plan that
we need to follow in order to have a better education.

My observation

I observe that it is very essential VMCVG in, to make it intertwined to the aims of the
school and to make the process of learning becomes effective and efficient.

What curricula are present in the classroom?

The teacher gives or present different curriculum. By using different strategies and
techniques that applied in their teaching method.

Is there a type of curricula not present in the classroom?

There’s no type of curricula not presented in the classroom because teacher presented
and implemented the different curriculum creatively.

What methods and strategies were employed by the teacher to realize their goals?

The teacher use various strategies and methods to make the teaching-learning process
becomes aware of what the goals of the school wanted realize, to value it and apply in
real life situation. They use programs and activities that encompass the aims of the
school that helps the school implement those with real learning’s.
How did the students manifest that they have internalized the VMCVG?

The students were simply manifested that they have internalized their vision, mission
and goals through participating those activities provided by the school. They apply their
acquired learning’s about what the school’s aim to promote better learning in every
school activities.

My insights

Every school does have its own mission, vision and goals to make the process of
learning’s become appropriate in a way that the learners may truly apply those
learning’s in real life situation. It is very important because it serves as a backbone of the
school.
What can you conclude based on your observation?

I observe that it is very essential in designing the curricula, by taking consideration of

the school VMCVG to make it intertwined to the aims of the school and to make the
process of learning becomes effective and efficient.

My reflection

Any learning experience may teach an unintended lesson usually observed. Showing
sensitivity and awareness is a duty of a teacher. In terms of hidden curriculum, we
should pay attention into it.

What should they be aware or sensitive of ? Why?

Why should you be aware of the types of curricula existing in the school?

You much aware of the different curricula for you to formulate good teaching strategies
by incorporating learning experience in real-life issues, this model helps students develop
skills that are transferrable to the real world.
