Average NQQF2 studentss will usually have at leastt 6 months playing experiience. The aability to readd
music is nott a prerequisite but will bee advantageoous. Please note: It is compulsory thaat all guitar
students have regular acccess to a guuitar.

Average NQ QF3/Diploma students will usually havve 1-2 years playing

a Guitar Graade 2 standarrd, or relevannt equivalent..
They are abble to demonsstrate compeetent skills in at least two contrasting musical
m stylees (eg. Metal
and Funk).

Average NQ QF4/Higher Diploma


D studeents will usuaally have 2 -44 years playing experiencce and be abble
to read basic notation. They
T usually are comfortaable playing ata Grade 4 standard, or relevant
equivalent. They
T are able to demonsstrate compettent skills in ata least threee contrasting styles (eg.
Rock, Funk,, Shuffle or Hip-Hop).

Average NQQF5 studentss will usually have 4-5 yeaars playing exxperience annd be able to read standaard
music notation. They arre usually commfortable plaaying all of the above at a high skill levvel plus 5
pentatonic shapes
s and 7 Major Scalee shapes as well as advaanced rhythm m guitar skills..

ments of section 1. Applicaants must complete all of

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
SECTION 1A SCALES AND CHORDS
NQF2 Applicants- Play one major scale and one minor pentatonic scale.
NQF3/Diploma Applicants- Play the scales below in at least
one shape and across one octave:
 A Minor Pentatonic
 C Major
NQF4/Higher Diploma Applicants- Play the scales below in
at least 3 shapes and across two octaves:
 A Minor Pentatonic
 C Major
 2 modes in the key of G
NQF5 Applicants- Play the scales below in five pentatonic shapes and seven major scale shapes.
 A Minor Pentatonic
 C Major

SECTION 1B PLAYING STYLES
NQF2 Applicants:
 Strum folk style piece and any other piece of choice
NQF3/Diploma and NQF4/Higher Diploma Applicants:
 Improvisation in a style of your choice no longer than one minute.
Play 2 contrasting rhythm guitar parts (Rock, Funk, Reggae, Pop, etc.) each to last 16 bars.

SECTION 1C READING PIECE (pg 5)


NQF3/Diploma and NQF4/Higher Diploma Applicants:
 Play through either Chart 1 or Chart 2 on this application.
NQF5 Applicants:
 Play through Chart 1 at 70 bpm with no audible click track.
