SCHOOL NUTRITION COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION Greeneville City Schools

FLSA: Exempt/Salaried (Non-Certified, Non-Instructional)

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for directing the operation of the National Meal Program with excellence in accordance
with the local, state, and federal rules and regulations as well as continually improving the vision for the
program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Rules and Regulations
 Supervises and directs overall operations of the National Meal Program.
 Coordinates and implements federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
 Coordinate training for the School Nutrition staff.
 Assists Chief Financial Officer with program budget.
 Recommends staffing of facilities and coordinates all matters related to personal management.
 Follows federal and state rules and regulations and local Board Policies pertaining to meal
requirements and record keeping.
 Attends classes and conferences for School Nutrition as required.

Meal Preparation and Service


 Assists in providing leadership to the School Nutrition Assistant Manager/Manager and the School
Nutrition Associate (i.e. preparing food, serving food to students and staff, and for maintaining
kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in a clean and orderly condition).
 Development of menus.
 Provides leadership of kitchen functions.
 Implements the approved collection procedure.

Performance Standards
 Supervises employee evaluation process and evaluates School Nutrition Managers.
 Follows instructions given by the Assistant Director of Schools for Administration in the use of
equipment, new methods, or techniques of work, recipes, and any changes in the work schedules
or number of hours to be worked.
 Performs and completes all scheduled tasks to the required quality and time standards.
 Maintain promotional materials to use in individual schools (i.e. signs).
 Works to promote teamwork and efficient production with the School Nutrition department.

Purchasing, Receiving, and Storage


 Supervises purchasing processes.
 Prepares bids and bid procedures for programs and equipment purchases.
 Ensures orders are placed weekly or semi-weekly and delivery checks are conducted for accuracy.
 Maintains records for ordered commodities.
 Ensures that all food and supplies are received and stored with consideration given to proper food
safety and handling procedures.
 Maintains contact with vendors.

Public Relations
 Promotes increasing participation through good public relations and marketing skills with students,
faculty, and parents.

 Promotes good public relations by supporting the School Nutrition program by actions, words, and
deeds.
 Plans special events and promotions for students.

Reports and Record Keeping


 Maintains a complete and systematic set of records of all School Nutrition financial transactions.
 Prepares financial statements and cost reports which reflect the financial conditions of School
Nutrition.
 Process Free/Reduced information and maintain all records.
 Reconciles accounts with bank statements.
 Oversee counting/depositing all monies received by the school lunch program.
 Plans work schedules and delegate responsibilities.
 Assists in the preparation of other records as deemed necessary for efficient operation of the
program or for auditing purposes.

Sanitation, Safety, and Security


 Monitors to ensure work areas are as clean and orderly as possible at all times and observes all
rules of safety and sanitation.
 Ensures personal appearance and hygiene are reflected according to policy.
 Reviews first aid reports on any problem or accident occurring in the kitchen or the school nutrition
areas.
 Ensures major cleaning of equipment and areas at regularly scheduled intervals is completed.
 Monitors trash and garbage collection areas are neat and sanitary.
 Oversee proper operation and cleaning of all equipment using established rules of safety and
sanitation.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS


 Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Schools for Administration or
Principal.
 Proficient in computer usage, including reporting/spreadsheets.
 Must be able to lead and direct the work of others.
 Ability to deal with unpredictable, stressful situations.
 Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
 Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Schools for Administration.
 Demonstrate personal characteristics expected of all Greeneville City Schools employees.
 Demonstrate English proficiency in oral and written English.
 Complete Employment Intention Form annually.
 Complete required annual and safety training via the designated Training Management System
each school year by the established due date.
 Routinely review your Greeneville City Schools system email.
 Display your ID badge in a visible location at all times when providing services for Greeneville City
Schools.
 Enter absence information timely via the designated Leave Management System.
 Non-certified hourly employees are required to clock in/out daily via the designated Time Keeping
System to accurately record time worked.

 Meet the necessary health and physical qualifications.
 Complete satisfactory background checks as required by the Tennessee State Department of
Education and state law.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
 Associate’s Degree in a specific related major* AND 2 years of relevant school nutrition experience, OR
 Bachelor’s Degree in any major AND 2 years of relevant school nutrition experience, OR
 Bachelor’s Degree in any major AND State-recognized certificate for school nutrition program directors,
OR
 Bachelor’s Degree in a specific/related major* (experience preferred, but not required)
 Previous leadership and food service experience a plus.
*Specific/related major: Academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management,
dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES/WORKING CONDITIONS


Average (lift over 25 lbs. and up to 60 lbs.), Occasional (over 15% and up to 40% of the time). Warm
(kitchen) working conditions.
