PRETORIA SE VISTEN DE
MORADO
Es difícil encontrar semejanzas entre Lima y Pretoria, dos lejanas
capitales de países, continentes, historias, demografía y geografía
diferentes; sin embargo, hace pocos días un querido amigo peruano,
Luis López, impactado por la belleza de los jacarandás en Pretoria me
dijo: “Increíble, como en octubre Lima y Pretoria se visten de
morado”. Efectivamente, en octubre, la naturaleza tiñe de morado las
calles de Pretoria, mientras en Lima cientos de miles de fieles se
visten de morado para acompañar la Procesión del Señor de los
Milagros. En realidad, no solo en Lima, en todo el Perú y en más de
sesenta ciudades alrededor del mundo, en todos los continentes,
miles de peruanos salen a las calles a manifestar su fe y a preservar la
peruanidad, más allá de nuestras fronteras, con una de las tradiciones of the most entrenched traditions of our people. Also impressed with

primera experiencia con los jacarandás, las palabras de mi amigo me
hicieron descubrir la primera semejanza entre las dos capitales.
AND PRETORIA DRESS IN
PURPLE
It is difficult to find similarities between Lima and Pretoria, two
distant capitals of different countries, continents, stories,
demography and geography; however, a few days ago a dear
Peruvian friend, Luis López, shocked by the beauty of the jacaranda
trees in Pretoria told me: "Incredible, as in October Lima and Pretoria
dress in purple." Indeed, in October, nature dyed the streets of
Pretoria in purple, while in Lima hundreds of thousands of faithful
dress in purple to accompany the Procession of the Lord of Miracles.
In fact, not only in Lima, but throughout Peru and in more the sixty
cities around the world, on every continent, thousands of Peruvians
take to the streets to manifest their faith beyond our borders with one
my first experience with the jacaranda trees, my friend's words made
me discover the first similarity between the two capitals.

Visita a la Embajadora Ntombizodwa Lallie Visit to Ambassador Ntombizodwa Lallie
Se hizo una visita de cortesía a la Embajadora Ntombizodwa Lallie, Directora General a.i. de la
División de las Américas y Europa, del Departamento de Relaciones Internacionales y
Cooperación, con el fin de intercambiar opiniones acerca de la situación internacional de
nuestras respectivas regiones y las perspectivas para fortalecer e incrementar las relaciones
bilaterales. Se hizo especial énfasis en la suscripción del Memorándum de Entendimiento entre
el Perú y Sudáfrica sobre el Establecimiento de Consultas Políticas y la realización de la
primera reunión de dicho mecanismo el año 2020 en Pretoria.

EMBASSY'S ACTIVITIES
Visita a la Universidad de Witwatersrand
El jueves 31 de octubre se visitó la Universidad de Witwatersrand para participar en
una reunión con el decano de la facultad de ingeniería, a fin de explorar las áreas en
las que se podría entablar cooperación entre la señalada universidad y centros
universitarios de ingeniería de nuestro país.
Estuvieron presentes además los jefes de las facultades de ingeniería y ambiente de
construcción, ingeniera eléctrica e información, ingeniera mecánica, industrial y
aeronáutica e ingeniería de minas.
En la visita se pudo constatar el alto desarrollo de la investigación y desarrollo
tecnológico en las facultades de ingeniería del señalado centro de estudios que, con
la ayuda del sector privado, realiza proyectos de innovación para luego ser
transferidos a las empresas.
Visit to the Witwatersrand University
On Thursday 31st December, the Embassy visited the University of the Witwatersrand
to participate in a meeting with the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, in order to
explore the areas in which cooperation could be established between the
aforementioned university and university engineering centres of our country.
The heads of the faculties of engineering and construction environment, electrical
and information engineering, mechanical, industrial and aeronautical engineering
and mining engineering were also present.
During the visit, the high development of research and technological development in
the engineering faculties of the designated study centre was observed, which, with
the help of the private sector, carries out innovation projects and then transferred to
companies.
A courtesy visit was made to Ambassador Ntombizodwa Lallie, Acting Deputy Director
General a.i. of Branch Americas and Europe, in the Department of International Relations and
Cooperation, in order to exchange opinions about the international situation of our respective
regions and the prospects for strengthening and increasing bilateral relations. Special
emphasis was placed on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between
Peru and South Africa on the Establishment of Political Consultations and the holding of the
first meeting of said mechanism in 2020 in Pretoria

Como parte del trabajo de Fabiana
Hoy en desarrollar un link creativo y
comercial entre Perú y Sudáfrica -
especializado en decoración, moda y
lifestyle - se presentó por primera vez
en Johannesburgo el connotado
diseñador peruano Amaro Casanova,
quien realizó una muy interesante
exposición ante un selecto grupo de
diseñadores, periodistas y
specialistas de moda, sobre la
influencia de la cultura africana y
afro peruana en sus diseños y en las
tendencias de moda en nuestro país.
Amaro Casanova mencionó como a
partir de la llegada de los primeros
africanos, la cultural local fue
incorporando las principales
características de la cultura de los
inmigrantes en actividades de la vida
diaria, como la comida, el baile, la
música, hasta llegar a integrarse
plenamente en un perfecto
mestizaje, que inspira hoy sus
diseños y el arte en general de
nuestro país.

Perú
ante la
Organización
Marítima
Internacional
El pasado de 8 octubre se organizó un
almuerzo con embajadores de diversos
países africanos, en donde el Consejero
Oscar Roca
Ferrand realizó una exposición sobre la
candidatura del Perú para la reelección al
Consejo de la Organización Marítima
Internacional (OMI), período 2020-2021,
cuyas elecciones se realizarán en el marco de
la 31 º Asamblea General de la OMI, entre el
25 de noviembre y el 5 de diciembre del
presente año, en Londres. Los embajadores
africanos manifestaron su mayor interés por
la candidatura peruana y ofrecieron realizar
las gestiones necesarias en sus respectivas
capitales a fin de obtener su apoyo.

Presentation of the
Peruvian designer
Amaro Casanova
As part of Fabiana Hoy's work in
developing a creative and commercial
link between Peru and South Africa -
specializing in decoration, fashion
and lifestyle - the renowned Peruvian
designer Amaro Casanova was
presented for the first time in
Johannesburg. It was a very
interesting exhibition, before a select
group of designers, journalists and
fashion specialists, about the
influence of the African and Afro-
Peruvian culture in their designs and
fashion trends in our country. Amaro
Casanova mentioned how, from the
arrival of the first Africans, the local
culture incorporated the main
characteristics of the culture of
immigrants in activities of daily life,
such as food, dance, music, until fully
integrated into a perfect mixture,
which inspires today its designs and
the art in general of our country.
Candidature of
Peru for the
International
Maritime
Organization
On October 8th, a lunch was organized
with the ambassadors from various African
countries, where Councillor Oscar Roca
Ferrand gave a presentation on the
candidature of Peru for the re-election to
the Council of the International Maritime
Organization (IMO), period 2020-2021,
whose elections will be held within the
framework of the 31st General Assembly of
the IMO, between November 25 and
December 5 of this year, in London. The
African ambassadors expressed keen
interest in the Peruvian candidature and
offered to take the necessary steps in their
respective capitals in order to obtain their
support.

I Pacific Alliance
Entrepreneurship Workshop
El 19 de septiembre se realizó el I Taller de emprendimiento
organizado por los países miembros de la Alianza del Pacífico,el
cual se desarrolló en la sede de la residencia del Perú.
El taller estuvo dirigido a la comunidad de nacionales de los países
miembros de la Alianza del Pacífico en Sudáfrica, con el objetivo
de explicar el marco jurídico de este país relacionado a la
apertura de empresas y comentar las posibilidades de negocios
existentes en el país.
El evento contó con una importante concurrencia
de la comunidad de los cuatro países, resaltando la participación
femenina. Estuvieron presentes también los embajadores de Chile,
Colombia, México y Perú.

On September 19, the 1st Entrepreneurship Workshop organized by the member countries of the Pacific Alliance was held, which took place at the Official Residence of Peru. The workshop
was aimed at the community of nationals of the member countries of the Pacific Alliance in South Africa, with the aim of explaining the legal framework related to the operating of new
businesses in this country and commenting on the experiences of existing business owners.
The event had the important participation of the community of the four countries, and highlighted the role of women participation. The ambassadors of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru
were also present.

Participación del Perú en las

celebraciones del “Heritage Day”
El pasado 24 de septiembre, la comunidad peruana en Sudáfrica participó de las
celebraciones del “Heritage Day” en la ciudad de Pretoria, Sudáfrica. La mencionada
celebración contó con la presencia de un gran número de personas que se
congregaron para celebrar las diversas costumbres y tradiciones de las que son
parte.
El grupo de danzas peruano “Tusuy Sumaq Llaqta” presentaron la danza amazónica
“Anaconda” en el escenario principal y que tuvo gran recepción entre todos los
participantes.
La participación peruana fue resaltada en los
medios de la ciudad.

Peru participation in the

celebrations of "Heritage Day"
On September 24th, the Peruvian community in South Africa participated in the
“Heritage Day” celebrations in the city of Pretoria, South Africa. The aforementioned
celebration was attended by a large number of people who gathered to celebrate
the various customs and traditions of which they are a part of.
The Peruvian dance group “Tusuy Sumaq Llaqta”, presented the Amazon dance
“Anaconda” on the main stage and had a great reception among all participants.
The Peruvian participation was highlighted in the city media.

Antes de venir a Sudáfrica estudié educación con especialidad en matemáticas y
luego teología. En 1999 estaba trabajando en Canchaque (sierra de Piura) como
profesor en una escuela rural y como pastor en una iglesia.
Vine a Sudáfrica por mi hermana que se casó con un sudafricano en 1984 e
indirectamente nos hizo conscientes de la existencia de Sudáfrica. En 1995 vine
para visitarlos y a finales de 1999 regresé para hacer estudios de posgrado.
Durante los primeros años estudié Administración Educativa y en 2002 me casé,
en Pretoria, con una misionera mexicana que conocí, en Lima, en 1997.
Aunque fue un tiempo de grandes adaptaciones y desafíos, a Dios gracias nos
fue bien. En 2003 nació nuestra primera hija y en 2005, la segunda. Y para finales
de 2005, concluí con los estudios de Educación para el Desarrollo de
Comunidades.
Actualmente trabajo como profesor de español en la Universidad de Pretoria y
como pastor voluntario en la Iglesia Cristiana Hatfield. Lo de profesor de español
fue algo que tuve que empezar desde cero por los requisitos
exigidos a nivel universitario. Tuve que estudiar una segunda especialidad y
luego seguir con estudios de posgrado en lengua, literatura y lingüística.
En cuanto a mis planes para el futuro, me gustaría seguir trabajando como
profesor y concentrar mi labor pastoral en la comunidad latina. Este año es
especial porque hemos abierto la Iglesia Cristiana Latina con servicios en
español y deseamos servir de esta manera a nuestra comunidad.
Para terminar, quisiera decirles a todos mis connacionales que en Dios siempre
hay esperanza. Que sigamos pidiendo por nuestro país y por nuestras
autoridades para que gobiernen con justicia e integridad. Si nos acercamos a
Dios, Él se acercará a nosotros.
Before coming to South Africa, I studied Mathematics education and then
Theology. In 1999, I was working in Canchaque (highlands of Piura) as a teacher
in a rural school and as a pastor in a church.
I came to South Africa because of my sister, who married a South African in 1984
and indirectly made us aware of the existence of South Africa. In 1995, I came to
visit them and, by the end of 1999, returned to do postgraduate studies.
During my first years, I studied Education Management and in 2002 I got married,
in Pretoria, to a Mexican missionary lady who I met, in Lima, in 1997. Although it
was a time of great adaptations and challenges, I am grateful to God because
everything went well. Our first daughter was born in 2003 and the second in
2005. And by the end of that year, I completed my studies in Education for
Community Development.
I currently work as a Spanish lecturer at the University of Pretoria and as a
volunteer pastor at Hatfield Christian Church. Lecturing Spanish was something I
had to start from scratch because of the requirements needed at university level.
I had to complete a second specialization in Spanish and then continued with
postgraduate studies in language, literature and linguistics.
As for my plans for the future, I would like to continue working as a lecturer and
focus my pastoral work on the Latino community. This year is special because we
have opened a Latino Christian Church with services in Spanish. We want to
serve our community in this way.
Finally, I would like to say to my nationals that in God there is always hope. May
we continue to pray for our country and for our authorities to govern with justice
and integrity. If we draw near to God, He will draw near to us.
