SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH VI

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:


a. compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate grammatical structures: Subject-
verb agreement (EN6G-Ii-3.9)

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Materials: strips of words, manila paper, power point presentation, pictures

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill: Choral Reading: The teacher will flash a card then the pupils will read the
different words.

2. Review: The pupils answer the activity about the previous lesson in Subject and
predicate.

B. Development Activities
1. Motivation: The teacher will group the pupils into two then they are going to
arrange the jumbled letters given by the teacher.
The pupils will post their output on the board.

2. Presentation of the Lesson: The pupils read the arranged sentence, and then
the teacher will discuss the different rules in Subject-verb Agreement.

Rules in Subject-Verb Agreement

1. Singular nouns, singular common nouns and mass nouns go with the –s
form of a verb.
 Rachel removes the dirty jacket.

2. Plural proper nouns, plural common nouns, and plural mass nouns formed
with quantifiers go with the base/simple form of verbs.
 The boys prepare their presentation for the program.

3. Use the plural form of verbs with compound subjects joined by and.
 Dr. Dre and his wife treat patients for free.
 Jane and Donna read pocketbooks.
4. When the parts of a compound subject are joined by or or nor, the subject
closest to the verb determines agreement.
 The girls or Noli knows the way to the mall.
 Noli or the girls know the way to the mall.

5. Some nouns are plural in form but singular in meaning and require the –s /-es
form of the verb and the be-verbs such as is, was and has.
 Civics teaches the duties of citizenship.
 Billiards brings honor and popularity to the Philippines.

3. Practicing New Skill: The teacher flashes the sentences using power point
presentation and the pupils will use their whiteboard to give the correct verb that
agrees in each sentence.

1. Dry leaves (fall, falls) on the ground.


2. A strong wind (blows, blow) them away.
3. The fallen trees (blocks, block) the roads.
4. The clouds (look, looks) like dark mountains.
5. The sun still (shine, shines) through the clouds.
6. The baby (cry, cries) because it is ready for naptime.
7. The flags (twist, twists) in the strong wind.
8. The doctor (cough, coughs) when she is talking to the patient.
9. My cousins (visit, visits) during their break from school.
10. He (sharpen, sharpens) his pencil before class begins.

4. Developing mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment): The pupils will


accomplish Task 1 On Our Own.
Work with a partner and compose your own sentences using the following pairs
of subject and verb in a sentence. Be sure to observe rules in subject-verb
agreement.

1. Mathematics- deal
2. Anna and Rhea- visits
3. The Beasts or Bella- dance
4. Angelica- love
5. The visitors- enters

5. Generalization: Ask the pupils the following question:


 What is Verb?
 Singular means?
 Plural means?
 What forms of verb are we going to use if the subject is singular? If the
subject is plural?
 What form of verb are we going to use if it is a compound subject?
 What form of verb are we going to use if the compound subject are joined by
or or nor?
IV. EVALUATION:

I. Choose and encircle the correct verb in the parentheses to complete the
sentence.

1. Mrs. Rivera (teach, teaches) her pupils well.


2. The pupils (learn, learns) much from her.
3. The MAPEH Teacher (teach, teaches) beautiful songs to her class.
4. The Grade VI pupils (love, loves) to sing the songs.
5. The coach (explain, explains) the techniques in singing.

7. My parents (own, owns) a small piggery.
8. My younger brother (work, works) as a nurse in the U.S.

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Write your own sentence using the 5 rules of subject-verb agreement that we have
taken up.
