Flashing the MECP I
The MECPI can be flashed by a Cat dealer with the use of the PowerVision Field
Programming Kit, a service harness (PN 430-7691), and a communications adapter 3.

PowerVision Field Programming Kit ‐ Installation

The PowerVision Field Programming Kit is

available on dealer.cat.com at the following
address:
https://dealer.cat.com/ServiceSoftwareDownloads

Begin the installation of software by double

clicking the downloaded PowerVision Field
Programming Kit file. This will launch the
installation process.

Press NEXT on the initial installation screen.

The next screen to appear will be the Software

License Agreement. CHECK the box agreeing to
the terms of use, and click NEXT.

Choose a destination for which the program will
be saved and click NEXT.

Click INSTALL to begin the software

installation.

Click FINISH to complete the setup wizard.

Open the PowerVision Field Programming Kit to
continue.

PowerVision Field Programming Kit – First
Time Use.

Open the PowerVision Field Programming Kit. A

window (as shown to the right) will appear.

Use the drop down menus to select “Mono

Displays” and “RP1210Conduit” in the Hardware
Type and Communication Type selections
(respectively)

Click the SETUP button to set up the

communication connection between the computer
and the MECP I.

Using the menus, change the following fields:

 Adapter: Caterpillar, Caterpillar CA3
 Port: USB
 CAN Address of Target: 255
 Station Address: 0

Press OK to save the changes

This will complete the initial setup of the

PowerVision Field Programming Kit.

Conneccting the M
MECP I for Flashing

In order to
t flash any new softwarre onto the MECP
M I, the Marine Servvice Harnesss (P/N 430-77691)
must be used.

Flashing the MECP I

There are 2 main steps of installing software on

the MECP I that will ensure the proper
functionality of the display. These steps can be
seen listed below:
1. Boot loader
2. Software Configuration

The bootloader and software configuration files

can be downloaded from SISweb.

Note: These files must be looked up by the 7 digit

part number (see below):

Bootloader – 4665520
Software (English/French) – 4540153
Software (English/German) – 4540154
Software (English/Italian) – 4540155
Software (English/Spanish) – 4540156

Boot Loader:

To force the MECP I to enter boot mode, make

sure the selector switch is in “Local” mode.
During start up, press and hold BUTTONS 1
and 6.

Once in boot mode the screen to the right will be

displayed

Once the MECP I is in boot mode start the

PowerVision field programming kit.

Set the dropdown boxes to the following

 Hardware Type: Mono Display
 Communication type: RP1210 Conduit

Next, select the load file you wish to load on the
MECP I.

Finally, click LOAD in the upper left hand corner

and wait for the software to be uploaded.

This will complete the boot loader upload.

Proceed to “Flashing the MECP I – Software
Configurations”

Software Configuration:

Unlike the boot loader, a software configuration

does not require the user to enter the “boot mode”
on the MECP I. A software configuration update
may be done from any screen.

Once the MECP I is on, start the PowerVision

field programming kit.

Set the dropdown boxes to the following

 Hardware Type: Mono Display
 Communication type: RP1210 Conduit

Next, select the load file you wish to load on the

MECP I.

Finally, click LOAD in the upper left hand corner

and wait for the software to be uploaded.

This will complete the software configuration

update. Remove the marine service harness and
reconnect the MECP I appropriately.
