Hostel Allotment Information (ADOS-I – IHA – JNU) 2016-17

Jawaharlal Nehru University Inter Hall Administration (IHA) has 19 hostels of which 07 are
exclusively for Male students, 05 are exclusively for Female students, 04 are co-hostels, while
01 is for Married residents, 01 is for working women and 02 and 04 hostels have male and
female dormitories, respectively. The total number of seats offered in all hostels is 6025. JNU
has admitted 3081 students in 2016-17 of which 1928 students have applied for hostel
accommodation.

During the academic year 2015-16 the number of courses offered by JNU was 89 while in
2016-17 it has gone up to 113. In the academic year 2016-17, approximately 1100 seats were
available by 21st of July 2016 with IHA, of these 451 seats have been allotted to complete the
backlog for 2015-16, The remaining 649 seats have been offered for regular allotment in
hostels. As per the IHA allotment rules, PWD and Foreign students are allotted hostels on the
spot at the time of admission, 175 seats have been allotted under these categories. A large
number of seats, approximately 350 are not available due to grant of 9B extension to Ph.D.
students.

The IHA through the Office of the Dean of Students allots hotels on the basis of merit (rank)
and reservation policy as Government of India (15% SC, 7.5% ST & 27% OBC), however IHA
tries to accommodate all SC and ST students on a 100% basis. The allotment is also done as
per Priority I, II and III and 1st and 2nd list of admitted students. Preference is given to Priority
–I students as per the hostel allotment rules mentioned in the Hostel Manual.

During the current academic year 2016-17, 1931 seats have been allotted to students till date
which is inclusive of a backlog of 451 seats for 2015-16. Out of the 1928 applications received
for hostel accommodation this year, the IHA has already allotted 1480 seats and another 103
seats (77+22+14) in the form of Second and Third roommate, Yamuna hostel and MRSH are
allotted, respectively. The remaining 448 students will be accommodated in dormitories and
regular hostels as and when seats are available throughout the academic year.
