The School
The Creative Industries School has been established at Kingston College to enable all GCSEs, ESOL/ EFL
qualifications, Pathway qualifications, Community qualifications and Functional Skills to be taught in a single
department. A key part of the Creative Industries School’s work is the delivery of ESOL/EFL qualifications to
learners aged 16-19 and adult learners on both part time and full time courses.
The role
The team leader will be responsible for curriculum standards for all ESOL/EFL within the Section. The day to
day line management of these team leader posts will be by the Head of Section, Foundation Learning. The
allocation of teaching groups that this post will be responsible for will be agreed with the Head of Section and
will be subject to regular review.
Responsible to: The Head of School for Creative Industries, who will delegate day-to-day line
management to the Section Head for Foundation Learning
General Duties
The post holder will assist with or undertake the following:
• Provide part of leadership for the Section, developing and implementing operational and
improvement plans in line with the Creative Industries School objectives.
• Promote excellence in learning and teaching on all programmes within the Creative Industries
School.

• Contribute to the recruitment, selection and development of students in a fair and open manner.
• Manage, appraise and develop progress tutors, promoting equality of opportunity at all times.
• Promote excellence in learning and teaching on all programmes within the School.
• Foster a culture of innovation within the pastoral and academic progress management team,
including embedding the use of new technologies within the curriculum.
• Ensure that all targets for recruitment, retention, achievement, success, progression and student
satisfaction are achieved or exceeded.
• Effectively implement quality assurance and improvement processes, in line with both internal and
external requirements.
• Support the Section Head in establishing a culture within the School in line with the College’s
values and beliefs.
• Work with the Section Head to ensure that learner support and success is of paramount
importance and that student issues are promptly resolved to optimise the learner experience.
• Provide information to College management and any advisory bodies about your curriculum area
as required.
• Make a significant contribution to developing and meeting the School Self-assessment and
Improvement Plans.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments and best practice in your area to provide sound
professional advice to the Head of Section.
• Actively participate in professional development and training activities, developing your own
personal networks and reflecting on your own performance.
• Be a role model of excellence and professionalism for all staff and students.
• To keep up-to-date with QA initiatives and to develop and meet service standards for the area of
work.
• To propose any ideas which may help to promote and extend the Group's reputation and
efficient running of the Group.
• To work safely, consider the safety of others and work within the guidelines stated in the Group
Health and Safety Policy
• To be available to assist in enrolment and other procedures, which may require occasional evening
and weekend work.
• Work flexibly, which may include evenings, open days, parents' evenings and possibly weekends.
• Undertake other duties as may be required by the Group Leadership Team or their representatives,
in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the Group.
As a list of general duties, the above is not exhaustive. The work of the Group as a whole is expected to
develop and the holder of the post will be required to work flexibly with colleagues to facilitate this development.
Candidates will hold a degree or professional qualification in an area relevant to the work in the School. They
should also have a teaching qualification. Non-qualified candidates must achieve a teaching qualification
within five years.
Teacher-trained applicants must be able to show that they have participated recently in staff development to
update their teaching skills and to remain abreast of current developments in teaching. All candidates need
to have excellent teaching skills and substantial relevant teaching experience.
