Introduction

Sub - problem
Specifically, this study aims to probe the following questions:

1. What are the most used instructional materials presented in different schools?
2. How should those materials be used for learning to the maximum and optimum?
3. What are the significance of selecting and using instructional materials?

Conceptual Framework
Instructional materials are important. Students learning occur primarily through interactions
with peers and teachers and instructional materials such as books, magazines, test, workbooks,
and homework. The effectiveness of teachers and the instructional materials with which
students have the opportunity to interact are affected by influences that range from
circumstances in the home.

Thus, instructional materials have a strong indirect path of influence on students learning via
their effects on teachers. Also, the choice of instructional materials has a major effect on
students learning that are associated with differences in teachers effectiveness.

Methodology
The study utilized the qualitative approach of research. Specifically, the study
used the descriptive method. Descriptive research involves gathering data that describe
events and then organizes, tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Glass
& Hopkins, 1984). The descriptive survey method was employed to gather data relative
to the principles and perceptions of the respondents.

Description of the respondents

In the conduct of the study, (no.of teachers) of Mandaluyong High School and
Laboratory High School were interviewed in order to get their perspectives on what is
the most used instructional materials.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers went to 2 different high schools including Mandaluyong High
School and Laboratory High School.

Limitation of the Study

The study Principles & Practices of Using Instructional Materials and Giving
Homework is limited only to the observed two types of school. The interview was
conducted only to the selected teachers in the said schools.

The researchers observed selected sections among the different schools and
they also interviewed teachers about the subject matter.
