DELA CRUZ, JUN P. “The Experience of Failing Students of Formerly Excelled in
Mathematics: Case Studies.” 2018
The purpose of this study was to determine the experiences of failing students who
were formerly excelled in Mathematics at Corazon C. Aquino High School, Gerona Tarlac.
The case subjects were eight Junior High School students and two Senior High
School students of Corazon C. Aquino High School, School Year 2017-2018.
The researcher made use of purposive sampling to determine the subjects of this
study. Furthermore, intensive interviews were conducted in getting the story behind
participants’ experiences.
The results showed that both external and internal factors affected students’
performance in Mathematics. The external factors were as follows: peer pressure, addiction
to gadgets, romantic involvement, pressure from parents, teasing and bullying, and marital
problems of parents. While the two internal factors include depression and timidity. These
factors had both lead to other problems like resorting to vices which consequently resulted
to a gradual downgrade in their academic performance. This study also found out how
students’ felt of their mishap and the different coping strategies they did to solve such
difficulty. Furthermore, an intervention plan was designed to address such problem.
FRIAS, FRANCE ANGELICA A. “Effectiveness of Project-Based Learning
Methodology in Mathematics at Dumarais Elementary School.” 2018
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of project-based learning
methodology in mathematics at Dumarais Elementary School during the School Year
2017-2018.
This study used the experimental design to answer the research problems. The study
showed the effectiveness of utilizing the Project-Based Learning in teaching the concepts
in mathematics to the learners.
The subjects were the pupils in the grade three level at Dumarais Elementary
School. Teacher made test was used to determine their entry knowledge or performance in
the subject before the use of the Project-Based Learning instruction. The study also focused
on the attitude of the learners toward the project and its implication to the educational
management.
The data provided that the performance of the pupils in both control and
experimental group had improved. Both methods were effective. But the experimental
group had higher results in the posttest which shows that the Project-Based Learning can
be used as a substitute to the traditional teaching method used by the teacher. Project- Based
Learning enables the pupils to enhance their achievement if used as supplementary aid and
assessment to the traditional classroom methods. The pupils agreed that they were
interested in accomplishing their assigned task and they liked Project-Based Learning in
Mathematics.
With these results, the Project-Based Learning can be used as an alternative strategy
to the traditional method of teaching. Teachers should be properly trained in implementing
Project-Based Learning before using it as an alternative tool in teaching and learning. They
should always find ways of stimulating the minds of the learners by using as many
techniques as possible in motivating their interest in the subject matter, and administrators
should implement the use of Project-Based Learning in teaching mathematics in different
levels of education.
TOMAJIN, JERMINE S. “Profile of Tutors and the Mathematics Performance of
Pupils.” 2018
This study aimed to determine the profile of tutors and the mathematics
performance of pupils. It attempted to look how the performance of pupils was improved
by the tutors.
It focused on the mathematics performance of fifty (50) intermediate pupils from
the different elementary schools of Tarlac City Schools Division. This study likewise
identified the problems that were encountered by the tutors and pupils during tutorial
sessions. Moreover, this study endeavored to describe the benefits a pupil gets from tutorial
sessions.
This study was conducted using the analytical research design. The variables were
studied without any attempt to control or manipulate them. The researcher developed a
questionnaire that was validated with the help of a statistician. The questionnaire
determined the tutors’ profile, as well as the number of hours they do tutorial session per
week, the common problems they encountered during tutorial sessions and the grades of
the pupils before attending tutorial sessions, during tutorial sessions and after attending
tutorial sessions.
The researcher also conducted an interview among the mathematics teachers of the
pupils to gather data regarding their performance in class. This study used T-test of
difference between means to determine whether the Mathematics performance of pupils
before attending tutorial sessions and the Mathematics performance pupils after tutored are
statistically different from one another.
Findings of the study revealed that children of more active parents who acted as
tutors to their children perform better in the class. The results of the study proved that
having a tutor helps a pupil to master the necessary learning competencies he/she needs to
master. As revealed in this study, tutoring can be an effective intervention for pupils who
are experiencing difficulties in learning their lessons, especially in Mathematics.

3. Observe the topic outline of the researches you reviewed in (2). Is there a common format?
No. Is there a common type format? No. If there is an institutional format, then describe
it?

4. Think of topics that concern you. Make sure that these topics are within your interest or
within the scope of your specialization. Submit these topics to your teacher. Make sure that
one of them will merit the approval of your teacher.
