I. Objectives:
At the end of the 60-minute time frame, the students should be able to:
Gain insights from the first four rules of subject and verb agreement;
Identify the appropriate form of the verb to be used in the sentence that agrees
on the number of the subject and
Construct a short essay by applying the first four rules of the subject and verb
agreement.
III. Procedures:
A. Preliminary Activities
The teacher will greet the students and will ask them to arrange the chairs
properly.
B. Pre-Instruction
Review of the Past Lesson
The students will share their understanding regarding the past lesson.
Motivation
The teacher will ask the students to look on the illustration inspired by the game
application “4 pics 1 word.” The students will guess the correct word being
asked in the pictures/illustrations. Afterwards, the students will guess the new
topic or lesson to be discussed by the teacher.
C. Lesson Proper
Using power point presentation, the teacher and students will proceed to the
class discussion and interaction about Subject and Verb agreement.
Rule 2: the pronoun your, whether singular or plural, requires a plural verb.
Rule 3: A little is always singular even if a noun within the little plural.
Rule 4: A compound subject that is joined by and or both… and is plural unless
its parts belong to unit or refer to the same person or thing.
The students will give their own insights/understanding during the class
discussion and interaction on the following questions:
1. What is the difference between “a number of people” and “the number of
people” in a sentence?
2. What form of the verb will be used if there is a singular subject, but is being
followed by a plural prepositional phrase?
D. Application
Boardwork
The teacher will group the students into 4 groups and the teacher will write a
word in the board. The teacher will ask the representative of each group to write
a sentences out of the word that the teacher wrote in the board the team that will
write a correct sentence by applying their learnings in the lesson such as the
“Subject-Verb Agreement”.
E. Generalization
The students will generalize the lesson discussed by the teacher by answering
the following questions:

Short Quiz
The students will choose the correct form of the verb. They will write their
answer on ¼ sheet of paper.
1. Annie and her brothers (is, are) ate school.
2. Either my brother or my sister (is, are) coming to the meeting.
3. The dog or the cats (is, are) outside.
4. Either my shoes or your coat (is, are) always on the floor.
5. Benito (doesn’t, don’t) know the answer.
6. One of my sisters (is, are) going on a trip to France.
7. George and Tamara (doesn’t, don’t) want to see that movie.
8. The man with all the birds (live, lives) on my street.
9. The players, as well as the captain, (want, wants) to win.
10. The movie, including all the previews, (take, takes) about two hours to
watch.
V. Assignment
The students will read in advance about the other rules of Subject-verb
agreement.
