Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before the SRT activity, we will have discussed the basics of summarizing a story and we will have read the
book Second Grade Holdout by Audrey Vernick. I will then tell the students that we are going to play a game
to help us summarize the book we just read.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): all
questions are multiple choice
1. Who was the main character’s best friend?
2. The main character and Tyler were kings of what?
3. What is one reason the second grade is not for the main character?
4. Where was the main character afraid he would find robbers and bad guys?
5. What did the main character think he could get for being the smartest first grader in the school?
6. Where does the main character go to school?
7. Where does Tyler go to school?
8. What grade does the main character really want to be in?
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I will review the correct answers with the class after the SRT activity because I want the students to know the
correct information and I want them to be able to go back into the reading or book and find the information,
and the more this is reviewed and practiced, the better chance of the student knowing ho wot do this.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I hope my students learn more about understanding
key information from books and I hope that they learn to stay on task with the speed of this game.
Reflective Practice: I feel that this activity could help student learning because the students will be more
engaged playing a game and using a tool that is not brought out as often. I could extend this lesson and have

the students write a summary using this information and what they learned about key information from the
book.
