What is Srimad Bhagavad Gita?

Srimad Bhagavad Gita is a series of clarification by Lord SriKrishna on Arjuna’s doubts and questions
on the fundamentals of some of the issues in Sanatan Dharma. What were those doubts and issues ?
They were:

1) Sustainable model of Purusharthas, the four fold Human Life pursuits with specific secular
and spiritual goals in mind.
2) The Sustainable model of socio-economic classification of vocations for the productive age
group based on one’s Guna and Karma, the inner and outer aptitudes to achieve life goals.
3) The sustainable model of chaturasramas, the four stages of life, for fulfilment of life goals.
4) The short term and Long term benefits of following those models.
5) The short term and Long term ill-effects of discarding the vocation prescribed in the model
for one or adopting a different vocation other than what is prescribed for one.

Lord Krishna also clarifies in Bhagavad Gita the related issues like:-

1. Concept of God
2. Confusion on Life and Death, life after death, re-birth, incarnation etc.,
3. Confusion on creation, evolution, dissolution of the universe etc.,
4. Eligibility for taking up Sanyas,(renunciation) a stage mandated for all householders, (i.e
Grahasta stage) as the last and final stage in life, without going thru vanaprasta stage.
5. Confusion on terms like Yagna, Yoga, Karma, Sanyas, Bhakti, Moksha etc.,

Though the discussion was between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, the audio-visuals of the same were
relayed live to the palace where Sanjaya, the personal driver of the King Dhritarastra of Kuru Kingdom
also saw thanks to the grace of Sage Veda Vyasa. The same was then re-told to the King at his request
on the 10th day of the Kurkshetra war a war between the Kingdoms of Kurus and Pandavas.

What was the outcome of the clarification by Lord Krishna? Arjuna, the supreme commander of the
Pandava force, who was on the verge of running away from the war on the pretext of some lame
excuses, resolved to fight it out and finally won the war for his kingdom, once he understood his
mistakes.

The relevance of the message of Bhagavad Gita, delivered 5561 BC, is eternal for the whole human
beings as there is not a day in our life when those very same issues do not torment us and goad us to
commit the same mistakes Arjuna might have also committed in the absence of guidance from the
Supreme Lord.

Thus we have a world of confusion all around. We have:

• 1) confused students obsessed with thoughts about marriage life

• 2. Confused students on subject / branch selection

• 2) Confused youngsters on job offer selection

• 3) Confused youngsters on their un-employment/un-employability

• 4) Confused youngsters on switching to entirely different fields from what they studied.
• 5) Confused youngsters on marriage, child-bearing, saving for the future, owning a house etc.,

• 6) Confused married people about their partners

• 7) Confused retired people obsessed with face book, whats up,TV serials, breaking news

• 8) Confused elderly on the way ahead in life

But, unlike Arjuna, we do not have Lord Krishna to clarify and guide. But, the message given by the
Lord Krishna, has been preserved as it is, so that we too can also get on in life with renewed vigour
and positive outlook.

If you want to know, more about these issues watch out the next episode.
