Visual Art Appreciation Club 1,2

Aka why we need to have this

By gisella w ideas from diana
For Jenny aka 2nd big boss
!!!!1! art wow art

medicine is art????

1. temporary name
art
2. prob include literature and other stuff as well
Wth is visual arts?
● painting
● sculpture
● Poster
● Film
● Pretty much all the things that you see
● Also lets include literature because why not right
● Which then makes it not really visual art
● But you get what I mean
● I think
What'll do?
● Regular meetings like basketball or badminton club in which we look as if we
just hang out but actually having geek discussion on things
– Like painters or paintings or sculptures or films or documentaries or
issues and problems and stories behind arts
– “a picture tells a thousand stories” is quite true
– Analysing the art pieces and try to interpret things realistically
– Pretty much trying to be a 'snob' but not snobby
● Watch a classic movie or important documentary or culturally significant films
once a month maybe?
– Film speaks humanity is such a way that is so different
● Art project for duration of the year individually which can include painting,
sculpture, poster, short films, or writings
– I mean art exhibition is so possible like why not right
How do you gain membership?
● This is not yet discussed but maybe how many
times you attend the regular meetings in a
duration of a year??
● Idk
● Also being a geek about this is a super must

I kinda gave up
on putting
pictures sorry
Studying art and
literature is part of
medical humanities
course in Yale Medical Medicine and Art: Links at the end
School
INSEPARABLE
● There are many cases in which doctor also do artsy stuff
– Sir arthur doyle aka creator of sherlock holmes
– Marga T, famous indonesian novelist
– MEDIS BAND *wink
– Apollo aka that greek god is patron of art and medicine
– In NZ, there is an association for artist doctors
– ALSO THOSE ILLUSTRATOR OF OUR ANATOMY
BOOKS? TOTALLY ARTISTS & MD
‘through their privileged and intimate
“‘Artists and doctors share contact with those moments of
highly developed greatest human drama (birth, illness,
observational skills and a injury, suffering, disease, death) that
physicians are in a unique position to
fundamental love for observe, record and create the
humankind” stories that make us human’
Medicine
aww yisss
Wait srsly inseparable?

● Just read the quotes from the previous slide and I dare you to tell
me it's not true
● But like doctors interact w people, artists interact w people; doctors
observe and analyse humans and ppl and artists do the same;
doctors need to appreciate humanity, artists pretty much try to reflect
humanity.
● Quite similar right?
● Also medicine is art is srsly a thing
● Medicine is not a simple 1 + 1 = 2.
● It's also require you to be creative
● BALANCE ART oh yeahhh
The goal?
● To appreciate art as part of humanity which is awesome
● To widen our perspective cos art can represent various issues and problems
– Which means we can be more knowledgeable on many things old and new.
Humanity's problem is usually repetitive and relevant always anw
● Being a med student that not only into science but also art
– Who doesnt dig that??
● Provide the sanctuary for students who adore art but has no friend to geek
with
– I know that there are many of us who like designs and to draw and to paint or want to
do art/design but get stuck in medicine
● Having fun without necessary skills: only keen eyes and eagerness are
needed
– Although having art skill is so why not. Maybe art exhibition once a year??

Cos u need to
be at least
curious 4 realz
The goal goal? Read: future
aims

● Integrating art subjects into our study

– Not only art but talk about issues like genders and humanities that does
not only include ethics
– Like we'd be super cool cos Yale Med School has arts
– How cool is that
● Better analysis and observational skills which hopefully help us as
a doctor
● Help us emphatise for even more realsies
– Gives better understanding on humans
– Reflecting on humanities
– yeah
benefits
● Can geek about arts regularly which is fun
● Makes you cool
– Cos this totes make u as cool as the athletes and photographers and musicians
● Learning new things
– Because knowledge am I rite
● Gain better observational skills
– hopefully
● Also u just feel this joy when u know cultural things u know
– As long as u dont be snobby
– Act snobby is still acceptable Also as a conversation starter
– U can also impress important ppl “hey do you
know that van
gogh cut his left
ear”

Super gr8 rite

rite
Not benifits
● Ppl think u r geek
● Wait that is not a bad thing
● There nothing to lose srsly
● All benifits
Arguments why this is a thing that
must happen
● So different from other things
● APPRECIATING ARTS (which can also include cultures) OF THE
WORLD (which yeah include indonesians as well)
● Totally beneficial
– FOR THE SOUL
– Which is what connects medicine to patients
● Srsly I bet there are many hidden ppl in the campus that will appreciate
this
● I cant be the only one
● What is science and saving the world (by saving ppl) w/o appreciating
the world am I right
● Also I dont think you need to support us w money
● We just need place and love
● Like van gogh
