Features of the IEC 61850 GOOSE - overview

▪ Support of Edition 2 and Edition 1 GOOSE-messages. Transfer of objects

between SIPROTEC 4 and SIPROTEC 5 devices must be done in Ed.1 mode
until SIPROTEC 4 does not support Edition 2

▪ IEC 61850 – GOOSE-messages performance

▪ Increased GOOSE performance (< 5 ms from transmitter to receiver)
▪ Bandwidth estimation for GOOSE – messages included

▪ Properties of GOOSE – messages can be changed (Interoperability)

▪ MAC-address, APP-ID, GOOSE-ID, Dataset – name ………..

▪ GOOSE – messages can be transferred between substations

▪ Substation exchange description (SED – file) can be exported and imported
▪ Network settings must be done according the GOOSE – properties

▪ GOOSE – connections can be created in several editors

▪ In the GOOSE communication editor (like SysCon in DIGSI 4)
▪ In CFC – charts, routing matrix and display editor

Features of the IEC 61850 GOOSE - overview

▪ Support of the quality information in a GOOSE – message

▪ If the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) are under test the received
message is used in the receiving device
▪ If the transmitter is in test – mode and receiver under normal operation
the GOOSE message content is ignored from the receiver (invalid)

▪ Better reaction on receiver side to broken GOOSE – links

▪ Indication if a GOOSE link is lost on the receiver side
▪ Indications / measurements on receiver side can be set to a defined state
if link loss is detected (automatic substitution of lost values)

▪ GOOSE messages can be switched OFF by a IEC 61850 client

for testing (not with DIGSI 5) → Test switch functionality for GOOSE

▪ GOOSE – TX indications can be used to block directly >Block inputs of

functions on the receiver side. >Block input must be assigned as source-
signal in the routing matrix to be available as destination signal in the
destination-node catalog in the GOOSE editor.

How to handle GOOSE messages between
SIPROTEC 4 and SIPROTEC 5 devices

▪ GOOSE – connections between SIPROTEC 5 devices (Tx) and SIPROTEC 4

devices (Rx) must be done in the DIGSI 4 system configurator if SIPROTEC 4
devices shall receive GOOSE messages from SIPROTEC 5 devices
Export of ICD or SCD file in Edition 1 mode from DIGSI 5. Import in the DIGSI
4 manager as ´Other IEC 61850 device´. Assign connections in DIGSI 4 system
configurator. Update SIPROTEC 4 devices. Export SCD – file from DIGSI 4 and
import it in DIGSI 5. Update SIPROTEC 5 devices.
Engineering workflow like for other vendors.

▪ GOOSE – connection between SIPROTEC 4 devices (Tx) and SIPROTEC 5

devices (Rx) can be made in the SIPROTEC 5 GOOSE editor in Edition 1
mode.
Import ICD file of SIPROTEC 4 device in DIGSI 5. Assign source signals from
SIPROTEC 4 devices to destination signals of SIPROTEC 5. Export SCD file
(Ed. 1) and import it in DIGSI 4. Update SIPROTEC 4 devices with DIGSI 4.

Create a new GOOSE application

▪ Source information objects (Tx) are included in a GOOSE application per

Drag&Drop from the source signal catalog
▪ Signals can be filtered (e.g. for operate – tripping, device name…….)
▪ GOOSE application can be assigned to a subnet
▪ Destination objects can be created in the GOOSE editor or in the matrix or taken
from the Destination-node catalog. Signal is created in the Logical Node.
