Welcome to the 2010/11 season and an especially warm welcome to new

members of the Club, of which there are quite a few with the addition of three
new T20 teams which is especially pleasing and possibly further signs of the
changing landscape of cricket.
Unfortunately it has been a very disrupted start to the season due to inclement
weather and under-prepared pitched (what's new you might ask!!) which
makes you wonder why the season doesn't start and finish later when the
weather is more stable but that's a story for another day.
Pleasingly, most teams in the Club have started particularly well. The senior
team has exploded out of the blocks so to speak and currently leads the com-
petition but as they say in show business "it ain't over to its over" but I have
to say I have been very impressed with the camaraderie and spirit in the team
which has enabled them to extricate themselves from such tight spots already
this season. Congratulations to Matt Taylor, who scored his maiden senior
century against Johnsonville. Matt is a fine young talent and excellent role
model for younger and older players alike. Matt - well done and keep up the
great work. (cont’d over)

I should also acknowledge the selection of Daniel vander Hayden in Cricket
Wellington's high performance squad. This is well deserved and recognition of
Daniel's outstanding performances over the past few seasons. Daniel is a huge
talent and hopefully his selection in this squad will be the catalyst for repre-
sentative honours. Well done Daniel.
One of the things we want to do this year is acknowledge this season is nota-
ble performances by individuals and teams alike. Wendy Horne - our Publicity
officer - will be collating results for The Upper Hutt Leader and the new rival
newspaper, Upper Hutt Star as well as producing regular newsletters and up-
dates on our facebook page - Upper Hutt United Cricket Club. Wendy will be
extracting the result information from Cricket Wellington's results website so
please ensure you upload your results the day following the match.
I believe the 2010/11 season will be a watershed season for the Club on a
number of fronts. We have been fortunate to secure a new major sponsor, Mi-
tre 10 MEGA, which has been a godsend at a time when sports clubs are strug-
gling to survive, financially. The generous sponsorship from Mitre 10 MEGA
has enabled us to establish a high performance coaching programme to assist
talented players in the Upper Hutt colleges and Junior Club. A special thanks
to Glen Taylor who was instrumental in securing this sponsorship plus other
sponsorships which we will announce shortly. We will be using some of these
sponsorship funds to purchase a new playing strip for the intercity teams and
other gear.
We have also secured funding from two cricket trusts - Norwood Trust and
New Zealand Cricket Trust - to purchase a tractor and portable nets which will
enable us to enhance practice and playing facilities.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people who assist-
ed me over the winter months to prepare for the coming season. The sponsor-
ships, trust funding and other initiatives we are implementing would not have
been possible without the collective efforts of Dennis Cook, Bob McLennan and
Glen Taylor. Thanks guys, I really appreciated your contributions.
Unfortunately, we have had to increase subs this year after doing our utmost
to cap them for a number of years now but the Club is facing much higher op-
erating costs this year - principally affiliation fees - so we have been forced to
increase them by around 10%.
In concluding, I hope to see as many of you around the Club in the coming
weeks. The clubrooms and bar are open every Thursday night and also on Sat-
urdays and we would love to see as many of you back there as possible as the
bar is still an important source of revenue for the Club. We will be running a
number of social events this season whilst also establishing a "Friends of Up-
per Hutt Day" which we hope will become an annual and well supported
event. Further details to follow in the next newsletter but please feel free to
check our facebook page and join up as a friend if you haven't already.
All the best for the coming season

Your friendly Chairman

Both teams have had a win and a loss, so it’s pretty even after 2 weeks of play.
Upper Hutt 2 had a win over Upper Hutt 1 in the first week , Upper Hutt 1 (189/4)
won over Easts(134) and Upper Hutt 2 lost to Johnsonville the next weekend.
A few 30’s already from Kelly, Danella, Kath, Freddie and Anna (the newbie)
have started the season nicely and a great bowling performance from Sue Eva-
son-Pegg for UH 1 vs UH 2 of 3-15, followed up with 2-12 vs Easts is looking
promising.
With 6 teams in our grade, we have no time for byes, so we have a full season
ahead of us…...

We played 2 matches so far. A won against

Mitre 10 Mega Upper Hutt Danny and lost an-
other one with Stokes valley due to the rain,
which affected our playing style, we batted first
and we scored 151 in 20 overs.. and they were www.cricketwellington.co.nz
110/0 in 9 over, we came back and fought hard
but finally they won with 1 wicket in Last over...
Now we are looking forward to next game with
for draws, results and the
Taita legends this Saturday at Trentham Park all important points table!
