I am writing to you because I am interested in applying for your open America Reads Tutor
position as posted on the ASU Job Search page. I am working towards earning my bachelor’s
degree in Elementary education and have tutored students of all ages in various subjects for the
past three years.
I read on the ASU website about the America Reads tutor position and I would like to speak with
you about this job. My strong work ethic, passion for education, and solid teamwork skills make
me a good match for the America Reads team of tutors. Also, my experience with tutoring ASU
students in the Pathways to Precalculus center makes me a good candidate for the position.
For the past three years, I have been tutoring students. I began to tutor high school Calculus
students, as well as fifth grade math and reading students, in 2016. I have also tutored ASU
students in pre-calculus when I worked in the Pathways to Precalculus tutoring center during the
Spring 2019 semester. I believe that my dedication to helping students over the past three years
makes me a good match for the America Reads tutor staff and a strong candidate for the America
Reads Tutor position.
I also have previous experience as a hostess at a restaurant called Fajitas. My work as a hostess
includes experience with greeting customers, communicating effectively with coworkers, and
being adaptive to quick changes. The host stand would be in complete disarray without the
strong communication and collaboration with my coworkers. I am also bilingual, which has
come in handy when customers that only speak Spanish need assistance. I believe these
experiences will allow me to help students and help maintain a collaborative work environment
as well.
