Pottery - It is made by forming a clay body into objects of a required shape and heating them to high temperatures in a kiln.

Glaze- It is a glassy coating on pottery, the primary purposes of which are decoration and protection.
Ways in decorating the pottery:
1. Painting
2. Carving
3. Burnishing

December to March - The peak season for local Pottery Industry.

Carving - this is the act of using tools to shape something from a material by scraping away portions of the material.

Bulul - is a carved Anito figures of the Ifugaos that represent their ancestral spirit and granary gods.

Padron/ Plantilya - In the process of woodcarving, it involves sketching and planning of the whole form of the sculpture.

Pagkikinis- This is the part where the carver will finally get rid of the sharp angles to achieve the smooth form of the sculpture.

Integrated - A word used to denote the assimilation of art experiences into the classroom-learning process.
Integrated Arts Production- the artists whose interest is crossing boundaries between media and/ or disciplines.
Integrating arts production and planning:
Motivates students.
Helps students develop a deeper understanding of the content
It could play to students’ talents and interests.

Drawing - the process of moving an instrument over a smooth surface to leave a mark called a line.
Stages of drawing:

Life drawing - a kind of drawing that is based on the artist’s observation of his subject.

Examples of drawing medium:


1. Chalk
2. Pencil
3. Charcoal

Shading - Value is an element that shows the lightness and darkness of an object. When you use lighter and darker values
(grays) to make a drawing more three-dimensional.

The technique done in this sphere helps to give the illusion that is three dimensional. An
artist can use __SHADING____ to do this using a variety of different media.

Oil Paints - an ideal support for canvas

Solvent - the part of the paint that has the ability to control its thickness.

Tempera - Fresh eggs should be used for this paint.

Three days (3 days) - number of days it takes for an artist to rework or correct any mistake in oil painting.

Binder - is the material that hold together the grains of pigment, allowing it to stick to the support.

The wall for a mural art should be inspected because:


The presence of dirt and grease will affect the paint
Cracks on the wall will cause damage to the work
The presence of molds will destroy the paint

Manual Dexterity - An artists’ techniques in which he makes coordinated hand and finger movements like in how he makes
brush strokes and executes sketches or molds a pliable medium.
Marketing Skills - It is one of the good characteristics of an artist that he/ she learn how to publicly relate oneself to people
for the purpose of selling his/her products and services.
Communication skills - The ability of an artist to transmit and receive messages clearly aids him in being able to read and
understand his audience.
Creativity - One of the good characteristics of an artist that he/ she knows how to make the most use out of his imagination.
Jusi - a fiber that is made from a combination of abaca and banana.
Fibers - This medium is described as thin, threadlike structures that can be come from animals, plants or synthetic materials.

Abaca - It is also known as musa textilis but more popularly Manila Hemp.

Ikat - It is a local style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process on either the warp or the weft before the threads are
woven to create a pattern or design.

Weaving- This traditional art form as practiced around the region involves many threads being measured, cut, and mounted on
a wooden platform.

Plain weaving- it is the strongest and simplest, the weft threads alternately pass above and below the warp fiber.
"warp" and "weft" yarns aligned with the long dimension of the loom, and weft go across.

Pangasinan - known as the “Province of Basket Weavers”.

Romblon - the place in the Philippines that is known for its rich marble depos

Paete, Laguna - the place in the Philippines, where the best wood carvers in the country are found.

Metalwork- it involves the process of refining and working with metals to produce objects that are both aesthetic and
functional.

Welding - the technique used for joining metal pieces together.

Capiz Shell- This is described as a whitish, translucent shell from the coastal waters of the Philippines and is also known as
the windowpane oyster shells.

Vinta Boat - It is locally known as lepa-lepa or sakayan found near the Philippine island of Mindanao.

Folk Architecture- these are simple structures usually intended to provide only basic shelter for the surrounding terrain without
concern for any architectural style; build of local materials and available tools.

Installation Art- a contemporary three-dimensional art that involves any arrangement of objects in an exhibition space.

Photography -it is considered as both a science and an art. It is also called as “writing with lights.
Printmaking - it is a process that involves the repeated transferring of an original image from a prepared surface.

Serigraphy - This is also known as silkscreen printing.

Lithography - A kind of print that results from the principle that “oil and water do not mix”.

Intaglio - in printing technique, these are created using metal plates into which lines have been incised.

Woodcut -it is the oldest type of printmaking.

Pastel - It is derived from the word “pastelo” which is Italian word for gum.

Oil Pastel -it is a kind of pastel were the pigment is bound in oil.

Watercolor -it is the most popular of all water-based paint media.

Paper Stumps - this tool is described as a stick of rolled paper used for blending.

Scumbling- One of the techniques in manipulating pastel involves building up the pastel painting in layers. The side of a soft
pastel is lightly drawn across the surface to create effect of a delicate veil of color.

Stippling - a shading technique that uses dot patterns to create dark values.
