Frequently Asked Questions

1. When will the new syllabus be available?
The new Diploma syllabus will be available on 18 October 2018 at trinitycollege.com/
performance-diplomas. We’ll be confirming the exact date soon, so make sure you
keep an eye on our website for further updates.
2. Are the pieces in the diploma syllabus changing?
The majority of the pieces from the 2009 syllabus will be retained, and we’ll be adding a wide
range of new pieces for teachers and learners to explore and enjoy. However a small number of
pieces are being removed. We’ll be confirming the list of pieces to be removed soon, so make
sure you keep an eye on our website for further updates.
3. I’m preparing pieces from the 2009 syllabus, but I’ll take my exam after the syllabus
changeover. Will I still be able to use these pieces?
Yes, most of the repertoire from the existing syllabus will still be valid for the new syllabus. We
are adding even more pieces to our lists to give you more flexibility and choice when putting
together your diploma programme.
4. I’m preparing pieces from the 2009 syllabus which do not appear in the 2019 syllabus. Will I
be able to play these after the syllabus changeover?
Any pieces that do not appear in the new syllabus can still be submitted as own-choice
repertoire through our programme approvals process, where they will be considered in
the context of the whole programme.
5. Which syllabus will I need to use for my exam?
Exams taken until 31 July 2019 will use the 2009–2018 syllabus. All exams from 1 August 2019
onwards will use the new syllabus. Please note that there will not be an overlap between the
two syllabuses.
6. Will I still have the option of choosing my own programme?
Yes. We encourage candidates to put together a programme that showcases their musical
talent. We have extended the repertoire lists to help you do this, and own-choice pieces can still
be submitted for approval. Additionally, we are providing advice and guidance in our supporting
resources about putting together a programme.
7. My programme has already been approved, but I’ll take my exam after the syllabus
changeover. Will my programme still be accepted?
Yes. Existing programme approvals remain valid as stated in the approval letter. There’s no
need to apply for re-approval.
8. Will there be any changes to the recital section of the exam?
No. There are no changes to the recital requirements. Performance standards, recital
durations and programming requirements will remain unchanged.
9. My question is not answered here. Where can I get further information?
