ABSTRACT

Online gaming is one of the widely used leisure activities done by many

people. It enables the mind of a players to be more active and emerge as

successful source of entertainment. There had been many studies conducted

about effects of online games to the academic performance of the students

however, the very reason why researchers choose this study is because online

game is popular. The purpose of the study focused on the effects of online games

to the academic performance of ICT 12 students in ALC. This study was conducted

to find out if online games really affects the Academic Performance of the students

on their self-motivation as study habits. There are three(3) theories focused in this

study ,the self-determination theory, Flow theory and Conditioning theory. In this

study the researchers used a standardized questionnaire that consist of 10

questions. The respondents of this research are the ICT 12 students in morning,

afternoon and night. There are 10 sections for ICT 12 in ALC. The researchers

randomly selected their respondents in which they pick 32 respondents from the

morning session, fifty(50) respondents from the afternoon session and twenty (20)

respondents from the night session. The study used quantitative method with a

mixture of descriptive statistics in getting the frequency and percentage in

organizing, describing, analyzing and presenting data. There are 102 respondents

who answered the 10 questions. The result of the study that were gathered

showed that online games doesn’t affect the academic performance of the

students in terms of self-motivation as study habits due to their right decision for

prioritizing their duties as a students. This means that there is no significant

relationship between online games and academic performance of the students.
