The learners shall be able to perform in groups in guided investigations involving

Performance Standard community-based using locally available materials.

The students will understand that through describing the components of a scientific
investigation they can perform guided investigations involving community-based

STAGE II: ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE

The office of the mayor is conducting a campaign to promote awareness among its youth
constituents regarding the environmental issues the city/municipality is facing. This
project is in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Specialists from different
fields/ organization will attend to witness your presentation regarding current
environmental issues. The proposal will be judged by the mayor and his staff, barangay
officials, DENR and DOST officials using a rubric:

STAGE III: LEARNING PLAN

The Nature of Science
CONTENT/TOPIC
1. Describe the nature of science.
SPECIFIC LEARNING 2. Perform an individual/group activity.
COMPETENCIES 3. Value the importance of science through active participation.

PROCEDURES
Prayer
Greetings
A. Preliminary Activity
Checking of Attendance
Classroom Management
 Have the students do Assess Your Prior Knowledge in their Journal. Let them
show and share their insights about the nature of science.
B. Activity  After sharing their insights, let the students experience “doing science” by
performing Activity 1.1 Nature of Science on page 1 of the activity manual.

 How long did it take you fit the pieces of puzzles?

 When another piece was given, what did you do?
 Did it take you shorter or longer time fitting the puzzle?
C. Analysis
 What did the activity tell you about science?
 Would you prefer working individually or as a group? Why?

 After the activity, the teacher will ask this question to the class “What is
science?” and facilitate the discussion on the following:

process

product way of
Science
thinking
D. Abstraction

community
endeavor

Note:
(The teacher may add questions during this period.)
(Students are highly encouraged to ask questions and add ideas to the topic.)

 After the discussion, the class will have an activity (Gallery Walk) and be
divided into 4 groups. Each group will be assigned the following topics:
Group 1: Science as a Product
Group 2: Science as a Process
Group 3: Science as a Way of Thinking
Group 4: Science as a Community Endeavor
E. Application  Volunteers from each group will be needed to go from one chart to another,
and write his/her insights about the topics.
 The volunteers are given one minute per gallery to write their answers on a
manila paper. After one minute, each volunteer will rotate clockwise. This will
be done until all the volunteers have visited all the galleries.
(After the activity, the class will check the answers gathered.)
1. How important is science in your life?
F. Values Integration
QUIZ
1. What is science?
2. Cite instances that show science as a
a) Product
EVALUATION
b) Process
c) Way of thinking
d) Community endeavor

 Using the internet or library, research at least 5 science process skill. Write
ASSIGNMENT your answers on your Science Notebook.
