3. What type of degree is required for your position?


It depends on the state. Most people get an Education Technology Degree or an
Advanced Certification in Digitally Rich Teaching K-12.

5. What are your job responsibilities?


Building-wide technology adoption, planning with teachers, pushing into classrooms,
Google Admin, integrated digital citizenship lessons, teaching applied digital skills &
introduction to computer science, Setting up student accounts for school-wide software
(Thinking Maps Learning Community, Castle Learning, Snap & Read, Co-writer),
software & hardware purchaser, manager and troubleshooter, professional learning,
managing digital media designs, managing teacher goals based on the ITSE Standards, &
writing technology reports and policy writing.

6. What are typical daily activities for you?


“I put out a lot of fires” in regards to technology software & hardware. Each day is very
different.

7. Do you have a budget that you control? How do you make decisions on
selecting resources for your stakeholders?
Since Norman Howard is an Independent School, the money allocated for technology
depends on enrollment and fundraising. Norman Howard has a technology committee
with 5-6 representatives which help make decisions.

8. Have you had an opportunity to impact technology implementation


throughout your school? If so, can you describe a specific example?
Before I was hired, my role was unfilled for five years. Therefore, the school lacked much
needed technology integration. During my time at NH, we’ve become a 1:1 school. Each
student and faculty member has individual Chromebooks.

The objectives of NHS’ 1:1 Initiative are:


 Shift to 21st Century learning to foster independence
 Accommodate a broad spectrum of learners
 Develop information literacy and digital citizenship into post-secondary
schooling or workforce.
 Extend learning opportunities to beyond the classroom walls.
9. Does your school have a technology committee? How are technology
decisions made?
Yes, there is a technology committee consisting of 5-6 individuals including myself. The
committee makes decisions and then brings the decisions to the administration and the
board which have final say.

10. What is the best part of your job?


I love the flexibility and independence of my job. I enjoy working with the diverse
community. We serve special needs students from 5th-12th grade. These students come
from 36 different school districts.

11. What is the most challenging part of your job?


It is difficult to be creative with tight purchasing restrictions. It has also been difficult
changing teacher mindsets to embrace technology.
