CONTEXT AND RATIONALE
In the implementation of the K-12curriculum specific subjects are given in the
context of the strand where the students are enrolled. Certain subjects are placed
under the applied group where it is expected that it should be carried out in a
contextualized way of teaching to enhance learning. One common observation is the
curriculum is generic by nature. Learners get the concepts as given by the teachers as
written in the teacher’s manual and the learner’s manual. However, teachers are
encouraged to modify the transfer of learning by meeting the level and needs of the
learners.
The definition of curriculum contextualization is strengthened in Department of
Education Order 35 S. 2015 stating that “it is the of matching the curriculum content and
instructional strategies relevant to learners.” Teachers give new experiences to the
learners to relate to the experience, interests and aspiration of the learners as they
prepare for their future, hence, making learning more effective and efficient.
Andriotis(2017) emphasized that contextualized learning is a practice that endeavors to
link theoretical constructs that are taught during, to practical, real-world context.
Entrepreneurship which prepares the learners for business enterprise is one of
the subjects under the Grade 12 curriculum. It guides students on the rudiments of
selling and buying a product or service for profit. As the author teaches this subject,
several factors are encountered in the preparation and the implementation of the
business plan. Hence, this paper is proposed to check the impact of grouping the
students to the context of their post secondary goals in doing the terminal activity of the
subject.

Research Questions

The main purpose of the study is to consider the effectiveness of clustering

of the learners according to their post secondary academic goal in the given
subject.

The study will aim to answer the following questions:

1. How do the learners see entrepreneurship as a subject and as an opportunity

for them to venture into business despite they are STEM students?
2. What factors do Grade 12 learners encounter in appreciating Entrepreneurship
as an applied or contextualized subject in the K-12 curriculum?
3. What are the thoughts of the learners as they are grouped according to their
post-secondary goal in the implementation of their business plan?
Significance of the Study
The study is significant to the following:

Students and teachers. The results of the study shall provide the teachers appropriate approaches

to teaching entrepreneurship specifically in helping the students become entrepreneurs. The

students will benefit as well since they will be able to check their preference in applying

entrepreneurship in their everyday life.

Administrators. The results of the study may give information to the administrators about the

putting teachers with passion in teaching entrepreneurship and offering other seminars and

trainings that may enhance their knowledge.

Curriculum Builders/Developers. The study may be contibuting to the new perspectives in

teaching Entrepreurship, that will enable curriculum developers to reflect on our current

curriculum. The results of the study, when considered shall be basis for reforms or further

researches in the field of Entrepreneurship.

Scope and Limitation

The preparation and implementation of the business plan for School Year 2019-
2020 will be the coverage of the study. It will be limited to the 134 Grade 12 learners.

METHOD

Type of Research

The study will employ the qualitative research design. Qualitative research is a process of

naturalistic inquiry that seeks in-depth understanding of social phenomena within their natural
setting. It focuses on the "why" rather than the "what" of social phenomena and relies on the direct

experiences of human beings as meaning-making agents in their every day lives.

Respondents

The respondents of the study are 134 Grade 12 students in Regional Science High School

III enrolled in the STEM strand, who are taking the Entrepreneurship course for the First Semester

of SY 2019-2020.

Instrument

Data Collection Procedure

. Data collection started at the end of Quarter 1 (Second Semester) of Entrepreneurship. A pre-

intervention survey was administered to the students. At the end of the course, a post-intervention

survey was administered to the students using the written that the students had submitted.

Ethical Considerations
The researcher ensured that the ethical principles were observed, such as informing the participants

about the purpose of the research they are being asked to participate in; participants understand the

risks they may face as a result of being part of the research being part of the research; participants

understand the benefits that might accrue to them as a result of participating; and participants feel

free to make an independent decision without fear of negative consequences.

Data Analysis
Data gathered were encoded, treated and analyzed for the quantitative part. Frequency, were used

for the data. For the qualitative part, data was analyzed manually in order to answer the research

questions. Such method enables findings to be obtained based on the most frequent, dominant or

significant themes that was built-in from the raw data (Thomas, 2006). While analyzing, all

transcripts were reviewed repetitively to identify the potential meanings of the raw data. Later,

relevant themes were developed.
