THE HARVEST FESTIVAL
Harvest festival is a much-awaited event of our Church. It is a special occasion
for members to come together and thank God for what He has done for us
1. TIME TO HONOUR THE LORD: Harvest festival is God-ordained.
"Celebrate the Harvest Festival to honour the Lord your God, by bringing Him a
freewill offering in proportion to the blessing He has given you" (Deuteronomy:
16: 10). It is a time to honour our God. "Those who honour Me; I will honour",
promised God (I Samuel: 2: 30). We honour God by giving Him the best of our
time, talent and treasure.
2. TIME FOR OUR FELLOWSHIP: We celebrate the Harvest Festival
coming together as families and friends and enjoy the day in fellowship. "Be
joyful in the Lord's presence, together with your children, your servants, and the
Levites, foreigners, orphans and widows who live in your towns. Do this at the
one place of worship" (Deuteronomy: 16: 11). We praise God for the unity and
oneness in our Church and we enjoy the fellowship at all occasions, in our
cottage prayer meetings, prayer meetings, festivals and special occasions of
worship.

3. TIME FOR THANKSGIVING: "Make certain that you do not forget the
Lord your God. Be sure that you do not become proud and forget the Lord your
God. You must not think that you have made yourselves wealthy by your own
power and strength. Remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you the
power to become rich. He does this because He is still faithful today to the
covenant that He made with your ancestors" (Deuteronomy: 8: 11-18). Harvest
Festival is a special occasion to give thanks for all the blessings we have
received froth God, the good health, enough resources, peace and joy in the
family and the fellowship we enjoy in the Church. "Be joyful always, pray at all
times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your
life in union with Christ Jesus" (I Thessalonians: 5: 16-18).
4. TIME TO GIVE FOR A GOOD CAUSE: "Remember the person who
plants few seeds will have a small crop; the one who plants many seeds will
have a large crop. So each one should give, then, as he has decided, not with
regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who give, gladly And God
is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need
for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause.
God will always make you rich enough to be generous at all times, so that many
will thank God for your gifts which they receive. For this service you perform not
only meets the needs of God's people, but also produces an outpouring of
gratitude to God" (II Corinthians: 9: 6-11)
5. TIME TO REAP A HEAVENLY HARVEST: When we do good things on
earth we reap the harvest in heaven. So let us give thanks to God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ' For in union with Christ He has blessed us by giving us
every spiritual blessings in the Heavenly world (Ephesians: 1: 3). It is a time to
bring the full amount of our tithes to the temple of God so that there will be
plenty for good works. God says to put Him to the test and "you will see that I will
open the windows of Heaven and pour out on you in abundance of all kinds of
good things" (Malachi: 3: 10). God's people will shine like the star in their
Father's Kingdom (Matthew: 13: 43) when there is the final harvest by God's
angels.

Who Is Your Shepherd?
PSALM 23:4-6
Sheep have a mind of their own. You can't drive them easily. They are more
difficult to handle than chickens. They go wherever and whenever they . They will
only obey and follow their shepherd.
YEA, THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW
OF DEATH, I WILL FEAR NO EVIL: FOR THOU ART WITH ME; THY ROD AND THY
STAFF THEY COMFORT ME.
Notice that it says walk through the valley; It does not say stop, pitch your tent,
and stay there. We are not to let the devil get us upset and angry and uptight,
fearing what might happen. When we stop in the valley and worry and fret on
what's wrong or what might happen, we forget that He is there with us too, and
we lose our praise just looking at the wrong things. When we do get into a valley
keep moving on...trusting God to take you completely through and out of the
valley. We must remember that God is with us! ALWAYS !
THOU PREPAREST A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MINE ENEMIES.
Sin is everywhere - but as children of God, we have been given a vision of
service, of need, of want - a table full of the grace and love and companionship
of Jesus Christ - a witness to serve this community in the love and grace of Jesus
Christ without reservation as to who they are- where they go, or what they do, or
what they say. These are our enemies, those who want to steal our grace, our
praise, and our witness.
THOU ANOINTEST MY HEAD WITH OIL. It is a personal touch. The soothing,
intervening Hand of God. This personal relationship brings joy and satisfaction.
God will heap the oil [His goodness & grace] on our head as we are faithful to
Him.
MY CUP RUNNETH OVER. We are to seek refreshing and renewing every
morning. The grace we had yesterday is not transferred to today. You can't put

your grace in a bucket when you go to bed and pick it back up the next morning
and add to it the next day! We must seek His renewing grace every morning. And WITH THE CORDS OF THY GREAT LOVE;
as we do this continually, He will fill us with more and more of His love and
ability. LET YOUR GRACE ENABLE ME TO STAND.

our way! When we hear Him say, Come, enter into the rest prepared for you -
when we dwell in that perfect place with Him and sing with the angels Holy, Holy,
Holy, Lord God of Hosts!! Then we can rest in His care, at His side, and it will go
on forever and ever.
Can we boldly say that the Lord is OUR shepherd? our guide? our all in all in
every area of our life? And that we will live with Him for ever and ever? If we died
right now, are we sure that we will be in heaven?

1. A GIANT DID NOT BRING FEAR IN DAVID – Goliath was a champion and the
Bible describes about him in much detail. The Bible says in I Samuel 17: 4 –
8 “4 And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named
Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. 5 He had a
bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the
weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. 6 And he had bronze

armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. 7 Now the
staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his iron spearhead weighed
six hundred shekels”. Everyone feared and not even one Israelite went
forward to fight against this champ and everyone fled from him. For 40 days
Goliath was the winner as none was willing to fight. But David did not fear
Goliath and it says in I Samuel 17: 32 Then David said to Saul, “Let no
man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this
Philistine.” Why did David not fear this giant and champion Goliath?. He did
so Because he was a brave warrior, and spoke well and a fine-looking man
and the Lord is with him . With God on our side we need not fear anything.
Be it the fear of exams or a new job or attempting new things in our
workplace. Saul and the Israelite saw Goliath from a human perspective and
were overwhelmed but David saw Goliath from God’s perspective and knew
that this giant can be won over with trust in God. Are you seeing battles in
life from God’s or a human perspective?
2. DAVID’S TRUST IN GOD FROM CHILDHOOD HELPED HIM FACE THE GIANT –
David was a shepherd and when a lion or a bear came and carried off a
sheep from the flock, he went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from
its mouth. When lion or bear turned on him, he seized it by its hair, struck it
and killed it (I Samuel 17: 34, 35. David recounted God’s faithfulness to
Saul and even taught a lesson to King Saul on trusting God. When we fear
Goliath’s in our life, lets recount the miracles and wonders he did in our lives
and go forward with trust and win the battle.
3. DAVID WAS NOT DISCOURAGED BY WORDS OF THE ARMY MEN – David saw
Goliath coming and challenging the Israelites and the Israelites running
away in fear. David listened to Saul’s promise if anyone defeated Goliath.
Even David’s brother was unhappy with David and chided him in anger. But
David was not discouraged by the words of the Israelite or his brother. His
only thought was to defeat Goliath and told everyone “Who is this
uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (I
Samuel 17: 26). David listened to what God had to say and did the right
thing. If he had listened to the army men or his brother, he would have
walked away home. Do we continue to do what is right despite negative
comments or situations? Be like David by doing right thing and you will
please God.
4. DAVID PREPARED WELL FOR HIS BATTLE – First Saul prepared David for
battle by giving his own tunic, put a coat of armour on him and a bronze
helmet on his head and fastened Saul’s sword over the tunic and tried
walking around but he was not comfortable (I Samuel 17: 38). So, David
took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put

them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand,
approached the Philistine (I Samuel 17: 40). He chose the stone as it is not
only strong, but a far worthier choice of ammunination against the enemy.
Do we prepare well before we face battles in our life? For example, how
prepared are we when we face exams or interviews or a new job
assignment? God will help us, but we need to do our part by preparing well.
An unprepared David would have failed.
5. GOLIATH SHOUTED OF HIS STRENGTH, BUT DAVID CHALLENGED HIM
INVOKING THE NAME OF THE LORD – David with faith in God went with full
confidence to face Goliath. Goliath on seeing David cursed him and told that
he will give his flesh to the birds and the wild animals. David having heard
this did not run away but thundered saying “You come against me with
sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord
Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the
Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your
head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds
and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in
Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that
the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our
hands.” As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly
toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a
stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank
into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground (I Samuel 17: 42 –
28). Do you get discouraged by words of anyone when you are facing any
battle? Remember how David challenged Goliath and took him head on in
the name of the Lord. David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a
stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed
him. We can also win our battles in life with God by our side and with the
resources we have.
6. SAUL SAW GOD’S PRESENCE IN DAVID – David became Saul’s right hand
and close friend of Jonathan after the victory over Goliath. Saul saw that
David was successful in whatever work was given to him as the Lord was
with him. I Samuel 18: 5 says “Whatever mission Saul sent him on, David
was so successful that Saul gave him a high rank in the army. This pleased
all the troops, and Saul’s officers as well”. Do others see God’s divine
intervention in our success?
Today we face Goliath’s daily. If we are like Saul, we can be defeated but if we
are like David we can succeed in our different battles in our life. David’s success
was because of his confidence and trust in the Lord, his preparation and facing
the enemy in God’s name.

Goliath (Hebrew: ‫ג ְָּליָּת‬,) was a Philistine warrior in the Old Testament.

He was the champion of the warriors of town of Gath. The name refers to Greek
name Alyattes.

Goliath was unusually large. His height was said to be "six cubits and a
span" - some 290 cm - and he fought as armoured charioteer. The Bible
describes how he challenged the Israelite warriors for single-handed duel,
but nobody dared to fight with him.

The Dead Sea Scrolls say Goliaths height was a more credible "four cubits
and a span", in modern measurements 202 cm. At the era when man's
average height was some 160 cm, he would still have looked like a giant.

Pearls are precious stones used to adorn the user. But what makes the
pearl different from other precious stones is that it is not mined from the
earth but rather taken from a living creature—an oyster. Besides, it is not
readily found in oysters. It is created with pain and agony by the oyster
when it tries to wrap the irritant in its body.
It is so unique that it takes almost seven years for a pearl to be formed.
Hence, pearls are used as a metaphor to denote something very rare,
fine, admirable and valuable. An irritant is something like a thorn in the

flesh and certainly, nobody would want it. But what the oyster does with
the irritant? It turns the very irritant into something adorable called pearl.
Similarly Jesus turned the disgraceful and disgusting symbol of cross into
the victorious symbol of the world’s majority religion as it played a vital
role in the resurrection of Christ and salvation of mankind!
In the same way, the path that we are treading may be rugged and weary.
The process may be painful. We may 6feel like quitting. But the more we
endure, the greater would be our blessing and glory! “God changes
caterpillars into butterflies, sand into pearls and coal into diamonds using
time and pressure. He is working on us too!”
Examples: Louis Braille lost his eyesight at the age of six. But later, he
invented a new system called Braille for the use of the blind. By losing
sight, he created vision for the blind! In Bible, David encountered problem
in the form of Goliath, Daniel and his friends in the form of lion and fire
and Joseph confronted several problems but these people turned them
into glorious success by the Grace of God! “The pearl cannot be formed
without irritant, nor man be glorified without trials!”
Let’s learn one more lesson from the pearls. Jesus said, "The Father's
kingdom is like a merchant who had a supply of merchandise and found a
pearl. That merchant was prudent; he sold the merchandise and bought
the single pearl for himself. So also with you, seek His treasure that is
unfailing, that is enduring, where no moth comes to eat and no worm
destroys."— Gospel of Thomas 76

I think it’s Jesus!-
Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and
when his plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his
home. As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and spoke to the
driver.
'You know' he said, 'I am 87 years old and I have never
Driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?'
The driver said, 'No problem. Have at it.'
Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off down the highway. A
short distance away sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed
trap.
The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone.
The trooper pulled out and easily caught the limo then got out of his
patrol car to begin the procedure. The young trooper walked up to the
driver's door and when the glass was rolled down, he was surprised to see
who was driving.
He immediately excused himself and went back to his car and called his
supervisor. 'I know we are supposed to enforce the law.... but I also know
that important people are given certain courtesies. I need to know what I
should do because I have stopped a very important person.'
The supervisor asked, 'Is it the governor?'The young trooper said, 'No, he's
more important than that.'The supervisor said, 'Oh, so it's the president.'
The young trooper said, 'No, he's even more Important than that.'
After a moment,the supervisor finally asked, 'Well then, who is it?'

Rev. Dr. & Mrs A. Samuel Raj who
recently celebrated their 60th Wedding
Anniversary were honoured with a gift
and Memento in church on 6th October,
2019. On the same evening St. Saviour's
Tamil Church family members gave a
special song during their Thanksgiving
Service at Bishop's College, followed by a
sumptuous special dinner on the campus
lawn arranged by their children.
Pastor's Appreciation Sunday was
celebrated in Church on 13th October,
2019. The Church prayed for and
appreciated Rev. Dr. A. Samuel Raj, Rev.
Ravi N. Jone, Rev. Dr. Isaac Devadoss
and Rev. Dn. Sam Dhinakar for their
ministry. Our Church elder, Mr.
Amirthasingh prayed and gifted them for
their valuable service and ministry on
behalf of the church.
We thank God for Mr. Allen Eric and
Mrs. Gracia Allen for all their
contribution.They were honored in
Church with a Memento. We wish them
all success in Life.
