1 Energization Study
The study is to investigate the insulation withstand capability of 33kV equipment at offshore platform
from energization events such as string feeder energization and WTG transformer energization

through short tower cable. The expected maximum crest overvoltage is evaluated by using statistic
switching method. In addition, simulation cases are assumed by considering
• normal operation condition
• contingency operation
• network strength of external grid

4 Fault Clearance and load Rejection Study

The study is to investigate the insulation withstand capability of 33kV equipment at offshore platform
from clearing fault, following breaker opening with WTG full power production. This study is intended
to investigate overvoltage with two consequence operation (i.e. fault clearing and load rejection). It is
noted that this study is not to investigate breaker fault interrupting capability but to find potential
overvoltage due to combined operation within 33kV asset. Both the expected maximum crest SOV and
sustained TOV are investigated with the study. In addition, simulation cases are assumed by
considering.
• normal operation condition
• contingency operation
• network strength of external grid
Turbine model is modelled as aggregation approach. The considered fault types include 1LG fault
(single-phase-to-ground fault), 2LG fault (two phase-to-ground fault), 2LL fault (two phase short circuit
fault) and 3LL fault (three phase short circuit fault) at the selected locations such as the offshore
platform and the WTG HV side.
