2. Attendance

Good morning class. Good morning sir.

Who are absent? (Answer may Varied)

3. Review

Last time, we have tackled about

probability of simple events.

 So, what is probability?

Ok, well said  Probability refers to the chances
that an event will occur
 What is a simple event?
Good  Simple event is an event that has
exactly one outcome.
B. Motivation

Let’s have a competition. The class will

be divided into two groups. I will give
problems to solve. After arriving with
their final answer one member of each
group will state their answer the first
team to present a correct answer will
have a point, the first team to gain 3
points will be the winner.
1
1.6
1. Getting a 1 in throwing a die

2. 2
2. Getting a head in tossing a coin

3. picking a red marble in a box 3

3. 5
containing 5 marbles, where 3
marbles are red and 2 are blue

4. If a pet shop offers 2 cats and 3 2

4.5
dogs, what is the probability of
getting a cat?
5. what in s the probability of 2
getting a 1 or a 5 in spinning a 5.7
spinner with numbers from 1 to 7

C. Lesson proper

Today, our lesson is all about

probability of compound events

What comes in your mind when you (Answer may varied)

hear the word compound events?
1. Discussion

Probability Of Compound Event

Events consists of more than 1

outcome are called compound
events, it consists of two or more simple
events.

Probability of compound event is given

by the formula.

𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑊𝐴𝑌𝑆 𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐸𝑉𝐸𝑁𝑇 𝐶𝐴𝑁 𝑂𝐶𝐶𝑈𝑅

P(E)= 𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑃𝑂𝑆𝑆𝐼𝐵𝐿𝐸 𝑂𝑈𝑇 𝐶𝑂𝑀𝐸𝑆

EXAMPLE 2:
A school canteen serves lunch for
students. The canteen offers 2 types of
viand (chicken adobo and pinakbet ),
2 types of rice(fried rice and steamed
rice) and 2 types of drink (pineapple
juice and orange juice). What is the
probability that Kristine will choose
steamed rice, pinakbet, and
pineapple juice?

We have 1 way of Choosing steamed

rice, pinakbet, and pineapple juice.

In choosing a type of rice, a type of

viand and a type of drinks will lead us
to the following choices:

(fried rice, chicken adobo and

pineapple juice), (fried rice, chicken
adobo and orange juice), fried rice,
pinakbet and pineapple juice), (fried
rice, pinakbet and orange juice ).
(steamed rice, chicken adobo and
pineapple juice),
(steamed rice, chicken adobo and
orange juice ), (steamed rice, pinakbet
and pineapple juice), (steamed rice,
pinakbet and orange juice ).

That gives as a total of 8 choices or

possible outcomes.

Using the formula

𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑊𝐴𝑌𝑆 𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐸𝑉𝐸𝑁𝑇 𝐶𝐴𝑁 𝑂𝐶𝐶𝑈𝑅
P(E)= 𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑃𝑂𝑆𝑆𝐼𝐵𝐿𝐸 𝑂𝑈𝑇 𝐶𝑂𝑀𝐸𝑆

will gives as:

1
P(E) = 8

So the chance that Kristine will choose

steam rice, pinakbet and pineapple
juice is 1out of 8

Example1 :
Finding the probability of getting
a 6 and a 1 " when 2 dice are thrown is
an event consisting of (6,1)(1,6) as
outcomes. So in throwing two dice, the
first die falls in 6 different ways and the
second die also falls in 6 different ways.
That will give as the following possible
outcomes.
(1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(1,4),(1,5),(1,6),(2,1),(2,2)
,(2,3),(2,4),(2,5)
(2,6),(3,1),(3,2),(3,3),(3,4),(3,5),(3,6),(4,1)
(4,2),(4,3),(4,4)
(4,5),(4,6),(5,1),(5,2),(5,3),(5,4),(5,5),(5,6)
,(6,1),(6,2),(6,3),
(6,4),(6,5),(6,6)

Which gives as 36 possible outcomes

To make it easy, we just need to use

Fundamental counting principle In
Determining the possible outcomes, by
multiplying the number of ways that
each die may fall.

Then use the formula

𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑊𝐴𝑌𝑆 𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐸𝑉𝐸𝑁𝑇 𝐶𝐴𝑁 𝑂𝐶𝐶𝑈𝑅
P(E)= 𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑃𝑂𝑆𝑆𝐼𝐵𝐿𝐸 𝑂𝑈𝑇 𝐶𝑂𝑀𝐸𝑆

2 1
P(E) =36 or 18

1. Abstraction  To compute for the probability of

How do we compute the compound events we must
probability of compound event?
determine the number of ways
that the event can occur, and
then find the number of possible
outcomes by multiplying the
possible outcomes of each
object. Then substitute to the
formula.

𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑊𝐴𝑌𝑆 𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐸𝑉𝐸𝑁𝑇 𝐶𝐴𝑁 𝑂𝐶𝐶𝑈𝑅

P(E)= 𝑁𝑈𝑀𝐵𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝐹 𝑃𝑂𝑆𝑆𝐼𝐵𝐿𝐸 𝑂𝑈𝑇 𝐶𝑂𝑀𝐸𝑆

2. Application

Let’s have a group activity, use

the last grouping that we have. I
will assign a problem to be solve(
within 10 minutes).
1
1. There are 2 spinners, both 1. 32
spinners consist of numbers 1-8
what is the probability of getting
a 3 and a 6 if the two spinners will
be spin?
2. Cardo want to buy a gift for
1
Alyana, he was thinking to buy a 2. 12
teddy bear and a flower, a shop
has teady bear with 4 different
colors and 3 kind of flowers, what
is the probability that Cardo
make his choice?

3. . Hermes wanted to buy a 1

receptacle, bulb and a wire, for 3. 60
his new house, if the shop offers 4
different kind of bulb, 5 colors of
wire, and 3 kinds of receptacle,
