• How large is the industry providing space to grow?
• Who are your key competitors?
• How fast is the industry growing? Viral growth?
• Are you a first mover entering in a crowded space?
• What is the reasonable market you can capture?
• Investor prefer to invest in large, growing market as a first mover
advantage with limited competition.

• Need to have an intersection of large market opportunity,
disruptive, defensible and limited competition.
• Business/Revenue Model
• What business you are doing? Is it hardware solution, software
solution?
• Is it one time purchase? Hunter/Farmer?
• Is it recurring revenue?

• Where are your prices versus competitors? What value you are giving
versus current solution?
• Investors prefer large and recurring revenue stream for disruptive
business.

• Investor prefer an A+ management team in a B- industry than a B-
management in an A+ industry.
• The team must comprise of “Been there, done that” members in a
startup company.
• In a startup business, no time to learn under the limited startup capital
• A+ now is technology based, use to be Banking, O &G, Education.

• Investor prefer lower burn rate-lower cash needed business (1M
vs 10M has a better chance of surviving)
• Sales & Marketing investment will drive revenues
• Revenues will have costs of sales
• Business will have overheads and employee costs
• All the 3 will determine how much operating loss you need to fund,
capital expenditure (CAPEX) and fund for R&D
• Whatever your initial cash requirement for CAPEX, OPEX, R&D;
double it as things normally go wrong and you will want refrain from
going to investor to ask for shortfall.

• Never lead with a 30-40 page document
• Keep it short and sweet (KISS)
• Graphics has better impact than words
• Screen shots of business rather than wordy descriptions.

If you can’t communicate your vision in one sentence, its too


complicated for the reader to digest.
