Respectable Ms. Amna Imran,

As a general manager of ADVANCED DISPOSAL SERVICES, I am pleased to share with you the proposal for a recycling
station in the city. After an introduction, this proposal will discuss the importance of recycling plant, the benefits we
can get from it and finally the data analysis about the recycling station.

INTRODUCTION
Every year millions of tons of waste are dumped in the landfill that can be recycled and reused. To cater this, we
need to have Recycling Stations installed all over the globe so that we can not only reduce the major effects of
pollution and save the natural resources from a fast pace downfall but also to make the world a better and clean
place for our future generations. Recycling stations will also help to get quality goods at a relatively lower cost.
Hence, recycling plants are now a matter of life and death for a longer survival of humans on the Earth.

Therefore, our company intends to establish a recycling plant in the second most populated city of Pakistan, Lahore.
The main reason we are choosing Lahore for our first Recycling Station is that it is one of the biggest wastes
producing city in the country. We can reduce that waste by 50% if we remove plastics, glasses, papers, metal cans,
and electronic appliances from it and send it for proper recycling treatment into a recycling station. The other main
reason lies in the fact that more than hundred large-scale industries are established around the city and are
producing a huge amount of waste as a byproduct. We can easily consider that waste for recycling purposes.
Transportation to and from the Recycling Station is also not a difficult task. Also, Lahore lies in the middle region of
the country, so it is much easier to access it from northern and southern regions. This will surely help in making the
worse pollution conditions in Lahore better.

LOCATION
The most suitable location for recycling station is Lakhodair near Mahmood Booti Interchange. It is situated on the
ring road that makes it an easy approach from all over the city and motorway. It is also near the Lakhodair Landfill
where all the waste from Lahore is dumped, minimizing the distance from landfill to recycle station.

IMPORTANCE
Recycling is one of the best ways for you to have a positive impact on the world in which we live. Recycling is
important to both the natural environment and us. We must act fast as the amount of waste we create is increasing
all the time.

The effort involves not only recycling existing products but purchasing products that have already been recycled. To
purchase products made from reused materials, simply look for a recycling symbol and language on the product’s
packaging. Every day manufacturers are finding new ways to create items that are recyclable including paper towels,
cardboard boxes, plastic containers, crayons, ink cartridges, paint, garden supplies such as hoses, furniture,
wallpaper, and even garbage cans.

Studies have shown that, more than 60% of the rubbish that ends up in trash bins can be recycled. 80% of a vehicle
can be recycled. Glass can be recycled 100% and reused. On the contrary, recycled paper is proved to create 70%
less pollution compared to normal non-recycled material paper production. 70% less energy is utilized to recycle
paper compared to making it from raw materials.

BENEFITS
Due to the carelessness of the industries, our environment has become a victim of pollution. All of this has made life
miserable on earth. Sadly, we cannot reduce the factory usage as it is our basic need, but we can help the society and
the environment by establishing a recycling station.

There are many benefits of creating a recycling station as it helps in conserving the natural resources as follows,
recycling station can help us by saving trees and forests. Paper recycling can lead to the saving of millions of trees.
Through this station, we will be able to save ecosystems and wildlife from harm. This station is essential as it helps to
protect human life from death. Human life will be protected from major diseases like hepatitis, malaria, typhoid,
dysentery and cholera. By recycling, fewer products must be made and less fuel will be used. Moreover, it will help us
by cutting the climate changing carbon emissions which are cause of global warming. Recycling station reduces
landfill waste. Landfill waste is one of the causes of water and soil pollution as it leaches toxic liquids over time, so
we will be able to fight against pollution through it. With help of this station, we will be able to reduce incineration of
waste materials. Through recycling station, it will help to eradicate poverty. Most of the population in Pakistan is poor
and by establishing such station, they will have means of livelihood and be able save themselves from the crisis of
poverty.

DATA ANALYSIS
Land Requirement and Factory:
The demand of land depends on at what scale your plant will operate. If you are interested in small scale recycling,
then a 50 sq. feet room can also work but it you want large scale recycling then at least 200 to 500 sq. feet of land is
required for recycling process. The land should have shades, closed space, large rooms, and technical room and so
on. You need to have a clean and closed space where you will keep your machine. All such closed rooms should be
ventilated to avoid suffocation. A large space should be dedicated to dump waste while a clean space is necessary to
keep the recycled product.

Machines for Recycling Waste:

You need to buy the required machine for recycling your waste. The waste is first separated and then compressed
and then melted using the machine. Then it is given small shapes and is then cooled down using cold water. The
machine for this comes in many types. Some machines have all in one feature while some come in part. Machines
also depends on what type of waste you are recycling and at what scale you are recycling. Based on this the rate of
machines depend. It would be better if you choose a large-scale machine that has various features.

Process involved in recycling:

1. Collection of plastic waste and other waste
2. Sorting and separation of waste like PVC, ABS, LD, glass, metals, etc.
3. Grinding
4. You can now supply these plastics raw material to recycling unit
5. Recycling process initiated
6. Compression and melting of raw materials obtained after grinding process
7. Formation of pellets
8. Manufacturing of new products like chair, table, bottle, etc.

Cost Involved in Setting up of recycling plant:

To calculate the cost, one needs to calculate the cost of all the required machines and equipment mentioned above.
The first is the land whose cost depends on the location of purchase. To get the land in less cost you should buy it on
outskirts of the city. Though you should ensure that you get proper facilities wherever you have purchased the land.
The factory setup can easily cost you Rs 5 to 10 lakhs. The setting up of machine for recycling costs from Rs 3.5 lakhs
to 35 lakhs and beyond.

Cost of other utilities will come around 1-2 lakhs per month. You can add the cost of labor and technician as well.
The other requirement includes the money required to purchase waste. This doesn’t costs much, around 20-30
thousand rupees per month is enough. Money required in advertisement, transportation, finishing, packing and
manufacturing will add up as well. One can expect a total of 10-25 lakh rupees investment for the first time with a
monthly expense of Rs 1-2 lakhs.

Return on Investment:
Your Return of Investment will depend upon how you devised your strategy in the recycled business. The first return
on investment can start after 4-6 months after the setting up of the plant. If you have made good network, then your
sale will rise and so will your return. Try to manufacture standard products so that it can be sold to standard
companies that will give you fair return. If you are getting good market, then you can setup larger machines to
manufacture and recycle more products.

For example, you can sell a ream of paper of A4 size easily at Rs 300-500 while selling 10, 000 paper plates can give
you 10000 Rs per day. Your return will be measured only after 1 years since the starting one year will take to build
your business. You can easily earn Rs 10-15 thousand per day in your recycling business adding up your recycled
products as well. All will depend on the quality, quantity of products you manufacture and the market of sale you
have.

Summary
Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce; The 3R sums up everything on the issue of waste generation. The best way to reduce
waste is to recycle it and reuse. There has been a rising trend seen in the recycle of garbage waste. Earlier it was
taking to task to reduce waste and to make a use out of waste but now it has turned out to be a full-fledged
business. Many people these days are setting up waste recycling plant where wastes like plastic bottles, polythene,
polybag, plastic containers, boxes, packets, sheets and their likes are recycled into useful products. Like these
products, we can also recycle paper, glass and metals hence manufacturing great number of products.

Sincerely,

Ahmed
