ChEnemalaya

Objectives:
• To create promotional videos to encourage HS and college students to take up chemical engineering
• To create promotional videos that will educate the general public on the role of chemical engineers in nation
building and in improving lives of Filipinos
• To showcase the creativity and video production skills of aspiring and practicing chemical engineers

COMPETITION PERIOD
• The competition period starts from July 29 – September 8, 2019 only.
• All entries must be received via email (ChEnemalaya@piche.com) (need an email add that can be used for the
submissions) on or before 11:55 PM, Philippine time (+8 GMT), on September 8, 2019.

Categories:
The competition is divided into two categories to cater to the different target audiences:
• Students
o Videos for the student category is targeted towards HS and college students to encourage them in
taking up chemical engineering.
o To answer the question “Why should I take BS Chemical Engineering?”
o It will be shown during school visits and/or career orientation as part of PIChE activities and will be
shared through the official social media platforms of PIChE
• Professionals
o Videos for the professional category aims to educate the general public on the roles that chemical
engineers play in nation building. It should also be able to provide the audience with an idea as to what
professional chemical engineers typically do.
o To answer the question: “What is a Chemical Engineer in the Philippine context?”
o It will be shown during PIChE activities and will be shared through the official social media platforms of
PIChE

Participation Eligibility:
Students:
• Open to all NCR Chemical Engineering students enrolled during the school year 2019-2020 as certified by the
head of the school’s chemical engineering department.
• Open to individuals or groups of not more than five (5) students. Actors may not be necessarily part of the team
members.
Professionals:
• Open to all PIChE NCR chapters with one entry per chapter
• All entries should have a certification from the Chapter President designating it as the official entry of the
chapter

Video Mechanics:
• All entries must be original and HAVE NOT been submitted and/or exhibited previously in other competitions
and/or posted in any social media platform.
• Entrants must not use copyrighted material in their videos.
• Entries can be shot using any device
• Entries must be in MPEG, MP4, or MOV M2TS formats. Minimum 720p resolution, optimally 1080HD using MP3
audio. Video size should be 1920 x 1080.
• Running time should be between 2- 3 minutes only (including opening credits, if any, but excluding closing
credits)
• Dialogues may be in Filipino, English, or Taglish
• All entries must be deemed the property of PIChE and can be used by PIChE in any legal manner it sees fit.
• Ineligibility of the entry to comply with all these requirements shall be sufficient ground for disqualification.
*Winners agree to the disclosure of their identities, announcement to the general public and that their entries
will be allowed to be used in any short film, publicity or other media arrangements as deemed appropriate by
PIChE.*

SELECTION OF WINNER
All eligible entries received during the competition period will be deemed successful submissions, thus, are all qualified
to be included in the selection of the winner.
Two prizes are up for grabs for each category:
• ChEnemalaya Video of the Year
• ChEnemalaya ChE’s Choice Video

There will be one (1) prize winner per category for the ChEnemalaya Video of the Year that will be selected by judges
based on the following:
1. Adherence to the contest theme (50%)
2. Originality & Creativity (35%) – How creative the user executed their video; the presence of their personal
touch; how the video stands out and impacts viewers
3. Technical Quality (15%) – How well the video was crafted in terms of video composition, music, and content

Judging of entries will be done during the opening ceremony of the Chemical Engineering Week on September 15,
2019.

ChEnemalaya ChE’s Choice Video


During the Chemical Engineering Week opening ceremony, all videos will be uploaded in PIChE’s official Facebook page.
The number of reactions (likes, hearts, and wows) from September 15 to 21 will be counted and will serve as basis for
the winner of the ChE’s Choice Video. The cut-off will be during the closing program itself.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNER
The winners for both categories will be announced and prizes awarded on September 21, 2019 during the Chemical
Engineering Week closing ceremonies. Judges’ decision will be considered final and irrevocable.

PRIZES:
ChEnemalaya Video of the Year - Php 5 ,000 plus plaque
ChEnemalaya ChE’s Choice Video - Php 3,000 plus plaque
