Project in Corporate Strategy

You have a group; please select a company or SBU (in case of Conglomerate or corporation). Between
the groups industry could be the same but not the company. In other words the company of each group
should be different one. You can choose the company where you are working or selected in the campus;
you can take up the company where you have done SIP or any other company of your choice.

Let the CR give the name of group members and name of the company the group opted for to me in
hard or soft copy

Visit the website of the company, Newspapers, Business Magazines, Google, any other literature and
write your project as follows

Write, Draw the matrix and put the relevant facts, data etc for each point and then what you
have learnt about the company

1. Mission and Vision of your company: what for your company exist and where they want to
go.
2. Balance Scorecard of your company and implications in Strategic Management of the
company.
3. SWOT: various functional strength and weakness of your company and opportunity and
threats/problems in the environment for the industry in which your company belongs.
4. Draw the Value Chain, put the input of your company in each of Primary and Support
activities find out where they have competitive advantages. Which company in the industry
you should benchmark and why?
5. Put the input from your company in 7-s framework; analyze each of seven levers and
thereby identify the company’s strength and weakness.
6. Draw the Porter’s five forces model for your company and find out the strengths of the
company and where the company is vulnerable in the industry where they operate
7. Draw The BCG matrix and GE-nine cell Matrix and put the various product or services
products of the company in the cells, analyze and recommend the strategy to be followed
by your company for each product /product group.
Why you feel BCG matrix is important; but may not sufficient unless you analyze the
Products in nine-cell matrix
You have to submit the project in words; soft copy to dasbiswas@bimskol.org by 3rd week of
November or the date finalized in the next class
Then we shall fix the date for presentation. All five members in the group should be ready to do the
presentation. I shall pick up any two or three students for presentation another three or two for
Q/A.
Please prepare your presentation in bullet points in not more than ten slides. Background should
white or very light grey color and words should be black color. Each group will present for five
minutes. So after the completion of the project please do the rehearsal for the presentation and
