Assignment 1: One app a week:

The current state of mobile learning is fast evolving in the 21st century. Mobile applications are fast
gaining popularity and being used in diverse ways to disrupt the traditional ways of transacting. In this
assignment, you are asked to individually review the use of mobile apps on a particular area such as
travel, shopping, training, multimedia learning, relaxation and others, in order to cover the following:
1) Introduction on the use of mobile apps in the area being investigated (previous use related to
technology in this area, and current status).
(3 marks)
2) Select one mobile app which has potential to be used effectively and highlight the advantages of
this particular app in the field/ area of use.
a) Give an overview of the purpose of the app, and the problem it seeks to solve
b) Highlight the strengths and uses of the app (ease of use/ design)
c) Investigate potential problems which may arise and how these problems could be addressed.
(6 marks)
3) Reflect on the future use of this app by discussing and giving an overview of the use of the app in
area being developed and how future trends and applications may influence its use.
(7 marks)

Note:
This will be an individual assignment which will be 10 marks.
Your report should be presented in an academic format with introduction and conclusion, and should
have references in the APA format. You can also refer to APA citation style, at Purdue OWL at:

You will be assessed on the written report that you submit. However, your presentation and discussion
during the process can may be used to support your final marks.

Assignment 2: Instructional Design Review

Instructional Design has been used to guide the framework of instruction. However, the design of
instruction may vary based on the subject matter (science or humanities), the purpose and aims of
instruction (to develop cognitive processes or affective skills) as well as the target learners (their
interests, aptitudes and other needs). In this assignment you will be reviewing instructional design
theories in small groups in order to review the following:

1) The introduction and overview of the instructional design model / theory being reviewed.
(2 marks)
2) The main components of the instructional design model / theory.
(5 marks)
3) Examples of research studies in which this instructional design model / theory has been used. Do
review the subject area, the purpose of instruction and the learners it has addressed.
(5 marks)
4) Compare this model to an instructional model for systemic instructional design (eg. Morrison,
Ross & Kemp model or Dick & Carey model) and state the differences.
(3 marks)
Note:
This will be a small group assignment which will be 15 marks.
Your report should be presented in an academic format with introduction and conclusion, and should
have references in the APA format.
You will be assessed on the written report that you submit. However, your presentation, discussion
team-work and collaboration during the process, can may be used to support your final marks.

Assignment 3: Instructional Design Project

Your task is to determine a problem that can be solved with instructional design. This problem should
involve the affective as well as cognitive domains, and can be related to the real-world and not
necessary a text-book problem. You will need to get the approval of your instructor and course mates
on the idea by pitching the idea in the class.

Only after approval can you proceed with the project.

The proposal of the idea would need to comprise of the following:

1) Introduction
2) The problem statement:
a) The issue you are trying to solve (include the history and background with references)
b) Significance of the issue to you/ your team
c) Justification of the need to solve this issue
d) The objectives of the project
3) Proposed solution
a) Current solutions which are ineffective
b) Proposed innovative solutions/ deliverables may be in one or more of the following
i) Innovation in curriculum/ content
ii) Teaching and learning innovation
iii) Teaching and/or learning resources
iv) System/module/package/pedagogy innovation
v) Gadget innovation
vi) Assessment related innovation
c) Justification of the proposed solution
d) Impact of the project
4) Timeline (related to course schedule)
5) Sustainability of project (without further financial implications)
6) Budget
7) Others.

This first section of the final assignment will be a group assignment which will be awarded 15 marks.

The final project report should comprise of the following:


1. The final project report
2. Pictures, videos, and other instructional resources / related materials
through a Google Drive link/ Dropbox

The Final project report should comprise of

1. An executive summary (200-300 words)


2. Introduction and justification of the problem
3. Need analysis of the problem and the findings (methodologies, context
analysis, learner analysis):
4. Purpose of the project: include instructional objectives for the following
domains: Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes.
5. Design and development phases:
a. Content analysis/ task analysis
b. Instructional Design model used is justified
6. Implementation procedures
7. Evaluation phases:
a. Methods and instruments for evaluation.
b. Findings of evaluation
c. Recommendations for improvement
8. Conclusion which will include what you have learnt and hopes and vision
for the use of your product.

This first section of the final assignment will be a group assignment which will be awarded 25 marks.
