(B) Solve any one of the following subquestions : 2

(1) Plot the points (0, – 4), (2, 0), (4, 4) on the same coordinate plane and join them.
(i) What scale will you choose?
(ii) What type of graph is it?

(2) A boat travels 16 km upstream and 24 km downstream in 6 hours. The same boat
travels 36 km upstream and 48 km downstream in 13 hours.
To find the speed of the boat in still water and the speed of the water current, use
variable x km/h for the speed of the boat in still water and y km/h for the speed of
the water current and frame two simultaneous equations.
[Hint : Speed upstream = (x – y) km/h and speed downstream = (x + y) km/h.]

(3) In a tiger national park, the number of heads and the number of legs of tigers and
human visitors were counted. It was found that there were 100 heads and 376 legs.
Find the number of tigers and human visitors in the national park.
(i) Use variable x for the number of tiger and y for the number of visitors.
(ii) Frame two simultaneous equations and solve.

Q. 4. Solve any one of the following subquestions : 4

(1) It takes 12 hours to fill a swimming pool using two pipes of different diameters. If the
pipe of larger diameter is kept open for 4 hours and the pipe with smaller diameter for
9 hours, only half of the pool can be filled. How long will it take for each pipe to fill
the pool separately?
(2) Solve for x and y.
