This concept note proposes examining the profitability of hydropower projects in Nepal. The objectives are to explore existing profitability and ways to make hydropower more investment-worthy. As an employee in the hydropower sector, the author has observed issues repaying investors. The research question is how development occurs elsewhere and how to make projects perceived positively by investors. Secondary data from reports and publications will be analyzed using statistical and qualitative methods. The expected outcome is that the current financial and technical models are defective, with companies highly leveraged and unable to repay loans or invest, and only small run-of-river projects are built.
