Strategy in Teaching Young Learner

Observation Report

The observation did on May 13th, 2019 in Let's Talk English Club Sidoarjo
own by Mrs. Rena Handayani, S.Pd. I observed in kindergarten class that contains 9
students. Mr. Mordy is the teacher of the class. Mr. Mordy is foreigner, he is in
indonesia for about 6 years.
The class started at 11 until 12 am. Because its the first time Mr. Mordy taught
the class so he started the class by introduction first. He asked the student name one
by one, but unfortunately he forgot to introduce his name. After introduction, the class
become so noisy, so mr. Mordy asked the student to stand up for singing abc song.
The class started with mentioning the school supplies like book, ruler, pen, pencil,
pencil sharpener etc. Mr Mordy used laptop for showing the picture. First mr Mordy
said the word and point out the picture and the student repeated the word.
After the student could remember the word, mr mordy used TPR methods in
his teaching learning procces. First, he put the picture of school supplies on the wall
separately. Then, he said the word and the student had to touch the picture. But i think
it ineffective. Then, mr Mordy asked the student to sit down again.
He gave a piece of paper to the student and said "may i have the paper
please?" and the student had to repeat that word. After giving the paper, mr mordy
taught how to speak a sentence like 'this is a book' then the student have to repeat the
sentence again.
After that activity, mr Mordy gave two paper again; the picture of school
supplies and the word of school supplies. Because mrs Rena has provided the scissors
and glues, the student only have to cut the picture and glue it to another paper that
have been given by mr Mordy. They did the task for about 20 minutes, some of
students could finish their task on time. But there are two students couldnt finish the
task because they lost some picture after they cut the picture.
After done the task, mr Mordy and the student back to the laptop to mention
the school supplies and repeat the sentences that they have learnt.
Mr. Mordy have his signature word "stop, look, listen, be quite, thank you'.
After said that word, the student can back to their concentration. In that class, the
situation was so happy because Mr. Mordy can bting the the class not to be boring.
But some students are hyperactive so sometimes they didnt listen to what Mr. Mordy
said. Mr. Mordy also need some help from Mrs. Rena to organize that students
because Mr. Mordy had some difficulties to say the word in Bahasa. There are also
some student who want to listen to mr. Mordy. Mr. Mordy said that he didnt have
difficulties in teaching kindegarten students because he had taught kindergarten
students before he taught adult students.
