12 houses in eso astro

The cusp of the first house (at 9 o’clock), is called the ascendant. It is the “eastern” point in the
chart, the point of the rising Sun. It is a powerful spiritual symbol. This is because light is a
symbol for God and the ascendant promises the eternal presence of Divinity that will one day
rise within us. Esoterically, the ascendant represents the purpose of the soul that seeks to
increase its light and influence in our consciousness.

On a mundane level, the ascendant and the 1H represent the physical body and personal
interests. The sign on the ascendant colours our appearance and also the way we face life. In
people who are not yet being influenced by the soul, the qualities of this sign can form a mask.
The young soul, seeking acceptance in the world, identifies completely with its physical form
and tries to present to the world a mask that it hopes will bring it approval. The first house also
represents a new body in a new incarnation, through which the soul will work.

h2

The 2H represents what we desire and value, the energies that we use to get what we want and
resources that we materialise to achieve this. The way the personality values money and
material possessions and goes after them, is shaped by the sign on the 2H cusp and its ruling
planet.

To the soul, this house offers an opportunity to transform our material values into higher
spiritual values. The esoteric ruler of the 2nd, its sign and house, shows where and how the soul
will teach us to develop higher values to live by and also where and how a source of spiritual
income may be generated.

3rd House

The 3H represents all that goes into the training of the concrete mind such as formal education,
the local environment and how we communicate within it. The personality chatters, argues and
debates with neighbours and relatives. To the soul, the 3H represents an opportunity to
develop the intellect and bring it under its control.

4th House

The 4H is at the bottom of the chart. It represents the foundations of life. It is most usually
related to the mother, the home, one’s family, race or nation. It can also represent our
psychological baggage. The personality has its roots in the past and is shaped by experiences in
early family life. If it cannot break free of unhappy events its “roots” stay firmly anchored at this
level. This means that wherever it may travel in the world or whatever it may achieve, a psychic
thread binding it to the past follows. This is unhelpful psychologically and does not bode well
for harmonious family life.

To the soul, this house represents an opportunity to cut these binding links, to clean out
psychological baggage and on a higher level, to serve the human family.

5th House

The 5H represents how we use our creative and sexual force, affairs of the heart and children.
The search for pleasure is a driving and dominating force in humanity and the exoteric planet
ruler shows where the personality will seek pleasure and happiness. The soul uses this house to
teach us to love unconditionally.

6th House

The 6H represents “service” generally, the daily duties we are responsible for, including those
at work. It also represents health, diet and food habits. This is a place of reckoning for the
personality, which is forced to develop skills it needs to survive. In this area we are taught to
get along with the people we work with. Otherwise, because of crises in the life, the personality
will develop health problems when stress takes its toll.

To the soul, the 6H presents an opportunity to develop skills and find constructive work so that
a fulfilling and productive life is lived. This will result in healthy self-esteem and improve health
prospects.

7th House

The 7H represents one-on-one formal relationships—formalised so that the rules of

engagement are clear and when honoured by both parties, the union is a positive and
constructive experience. However, the personality when ruled by desire, insecurity and
selfishness, breaks the negotiated rules. If deceit follows, it damages the relationship, leading to
a sense of betrayal and anger in the partner who then becomes an enemy.

To the soul, the 7H represents an opportunity to honour commitments, to act honourably and
treat others with respect. Success leads to the “mystical marriage” —the merging of the forces
of the soul and personality. The esoteric ruler shows where the soul is teaching us to relate with
others as a soul, where we can find members of our soul-ashram and form partnerships that
benefit service work.

8th House

The mysterious 8H is naturally ruled by Scorpio. It represents major separations and challenges
(sexual, loss, death) that force us to change, grow and transform. It also rules other people’s
values, money and legacies. In our psychology it represents strong emotional attachments. If
these are not balanced, the ego can be obsessed with the need to get what it wants—breaking
rules and taboos.

9th House

The 9H represents the higher collective beliefs and morals that we generally hold about life and
the world. It rules academic life, formal religion and those who teach in these educational
areas.

This house rules the Path of Spiritual Development. To the soul it provides an opportunity to
expand consciousness so that progression on the Path can be made.

10th House

Located at the top of the chart, this house represents the father, government, power, authority,
status and the professional life. In this house, the personality seeks glory and adulation. If those
in power approve of what it has to offer then material benefit, recognition, fame and glory will
follow. Disapproval on the other hand results in notoriety and rejection.

Esoterically, the 10H represents the opportunity to do “the Master’s work,” to gain influence in
the world and guide the public to abide by the laws of man and God. The esoteric ruler of the
10th—its sign and house, shows where and how we can contribute to world service, find a soul-
inspired vocation [41] and prepare for initiation.

11th House

The 11H represents social intercourse with friends, groups and organisations who share the
same ideals, hopes and aspirations. At the personality level, the ego associates with friends
who share the same personality-based interests.

To the Soul, the 11H represents an opportunity to do group service work. The house that the
esoteric ruler of the 11th is in, may show where true group work or service lies.

12th House

This final house represents life’s rejects, casualties and places of isolation—hospitals, hospices,
prisons and spiritual retreats. It also represents hidden places, secrets, life’s unknowable
mysteries, secretive organisations and the collective unconscious of humanity. On another
level, it represents the ocean gene-pool from which the substance for our physical, emotional
and mental bodies is drawn when we incarnate; and into which they dissolve again when the
bodies die.
To the personality this house is forced retirement—either because of ill health, anti-social
behaviour or because negative fears make it difficult to cope with ordinary life.

To the soul, the 12H represents a place of quiet retreat for reflection and meditation. The
esoteric ruler of the 12th—its sign and house shows where and how to be reconciled and
integrated into the flow of life, or where we can give selfless service.

/Spiritual income, or the level of gratification, fulfillment and achievement derived from the
work you do on a daily basis, is another vital entity to be weighed when considering a new or
current job position. Without a high-level of spiritual income, your job can pose threats to your
mental and physical health, as well as your overall state of wellbeing.

The lack of purposefulness in life has been linked to Alzheimer’s diagnoses, and discontentment
in jobs could spill into other aspects of life, such as your relationships and involvement in
hobbies or extracurricular activities.

You begin to feel drained, and on a daily basis, you lose the urge to go out with friends,
experience life and enjoy yourself. If you realize you are no longer happy in your job, it is your
responsibility to do something about it.
