CHAPTER 1
Introduction
Mobile Legend is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) mobile game developed and
published by Shanghai Moonton Technology. The game has become popular in Southeast Asia.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a multiplayer (5 vs. 5) online battle arena game designed for mobile
phones. The two opposing teams fight to reach and destroy the enemy’s base while defending their own
base for control of path, the three “Lanes” known as “top”, “middle” and “ bottom” which connects the
bases. Weaker computer-controlled characters, called “minions”, spawn at team bases and follow the three
lanes to the opposite team’s base, fighting enemies and turrets. In each team, there are five players who
each control an avatar, known as a “hero”, from their own device. Heroes can be grouped into 6 different
roles, Marksman, Assassin, Mage, Support, Fighter and Tank.
Mobile Legends tournaments have been held in the region, including the annual Mobile
Legends:Bang Bang Southeast Asian Competition ( MSC ) and even each countries having their
own local leagues. Mobile Legends was confirmed as the first e-sports title to be included as a
medal event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
The youth of today no longer seem to spend their leisure activities like in the olden days;
outdoor games or playing with toys, instead, they spend their free time in their homes, internet
cafés or computer shops simply to satisfy their hunger; and that hunger is Mobile Legend. Mobile
Legend has such a profound impact on not only the young, but dynamically every age group as
well. So far, virtually anyone is able to buy a load and punch through the keys in order to get a
high score, chat with players, get the rarest items, and level up as fast as possible. Yes, there seems
to be no restriction as to whom, how or what online gaming can extend to.
This study aims to know the perceived effects of Mobile Legend to the academic
performance among the Grade 12 male students in Andre Soriano Colleges of Bislig.
1. How does playing Mobile Legend affect the academic performance of the students in relation
with?

2. Is there significant relationship between playing online games and academic performance of the

To the Parents, it will serve as basis to help share with other parents the information about
certain game or ideas to help each other in parenting. Also it will help them understand the
behaviour and study habit of their children when they’re engaged into such activity.
To the Teachers, it will provide additional knowledge on what strategy to use to educate
students about the well-known effects of online gaming to students’ academic performance,
problem-solving strategy, decision-making and spatial visualization.
To the future researchers, this will serve as a guide in conducting a research with similar
nature.
A survey will be conducted about the evaluation of the respondents regarding in the study of
the effects of playing Mobile Legend on students’ academic performance in Andres Soriano
Colleges of Bislig Grade 12 male students. In a random order, fifty selected grade 12 male students
in Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig will be given questionnaires to get information that will be
needed in the study. This study will be conducted to determine the effects of online gaming to
students’ academic performance, problem-solving strategy, decision-making and spatial
visualization. The problem-solving strategy, memorization and decision-making capabilities will
be measured through a series of situations and identifications on the questionnaire.
Definition of Terms
Students – refers to the learners of Andre Soriano Colleges of Bislig for the School Year 2019
– 2020.
This chapter includes a review of literature and studies on the effect of Mobile Legend
on the academic performance. This gives the researcher a vivid view on how the strategy is
to be carried out
Literature
Due to playing, eating is irrelevant; the satisfaction they get from playing is the same as
the satisfaction they get from eating. As a result, the body's immune systems are getting weaker
and now expose the different viruses and diseases.
All in all, Mobile Legend really affects the life style of the youth who are in to this game, although
it has one good benefit, but it corrupts the mind and the way the youth think. It also weakened the
body system, money and moral values were not given importance because of this game.
There are many students and even some young professional are addicted to Mobile Legend. This
is a kind of mobile games that can be played by many players and is one of the most popular games
to young students. Many students get addicted to this game and they even spend long hours just
playing this kind of game. There are studies that getting addicted in playing mobile games affects
their studies and this is the cause why they are lying to their parents that they need extra money
for their school project but the truth is they are just using the money to buy a load where they can
play Mobile Legend with their classmates. Sometimes in order to make the game exciting, they
have a deal to pay those who won the game so it becomes already a form of gambling.
When time spent on the phones, playing Mobile Legend games reaches a point that it harms
a child's or adult's family and social relationships, or disrupts school or work life, that person
maybe caught in a cycle of addiction. Like other addictions, Mobile Legend game has replaced
friends and family as the source of a person, emotional life. Increasingly, to feel good, the addicted
person spends more time playing mobile games or searching the internet.
According to All Academic Research, playing mobile games may not be all that bad for
your children. Peng Wei states that educational games can be effective assisting tools in the
educational areas of management, medicine and science. If you choose the right educational
computer games, your child may learn better problem-solving skills and eye-hand coordination.
Your child may also get the ability to think fast and think of multiple things all at once. Skills
obtained from playing computer games may help your child learn quickly when it comes to his
studies. If your child is struggling in one of his school subjects, there are many educational mobile
games available for him. There are math and reading related games that may help boost your
child’s skills. These games can be both fun and educational for your children.
Because there is no official diagnosis of mobile game addiction, there is obviously no universally
agreed upon list of symptoms. Psychologists and other mental health professionals initially adapted
the diagnostic criteria for gambling addiction and used this as a rough assessment tool for mobile
game addiction. This classification approach is rarely used today and for better or for worse, it is
essentially up to the individual researcher or clinician to define the symptoms of mobile addiction.
Still, there are some signs and behaviours that are almost always included in definitions of mobile
addiction, such as: Significant interference with school, work, or relationships. Often avoiding
other commitments in order to keep playing, Frequently turning down social invitations in favor
of gaming, Using most or all of one's free time for gaming, Regularly playing late into the night
and which results in poor sleep habits, Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, Regular
gaming "binges" of 8 hours or more nonstop.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
The descriptive survey will be used in this research to know the factors of Mobile Legend
affecting the academic performance of students in Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig. The idea
behind this type of research is to study frequencies, averages, and the other statistical calculations.
Although this research is highly accurate, it does not gather the causes behind a situation.
The respondents of this study are 50 Grade-12 male students of Andres Soriano Colleges of
Bislig.
The study was conducted at Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig. Andres Soriano Colleges of

The researcher will prepare one copy of the questionnaire, and photocopy 50 copies to be
given the selected respondents.

CHAPTER 5
Findings
The results of the survey provided information on effects of playing Mobile Legend and
Academic Performance among grade-12 male students of Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig. This
study answered the following questions:

Playing Mobile Legend is just leisure to the students. It’s up to the student if he will really career
playing Mobile Legend or if the student will let Mobile Legend consume him/her. And for the
students, who play the game, they need guidance from their parents in order to not abuse, take their
studies for granted and they will not be consumed by the game.
Recommendation
After conducting the survey about effects of playing Mobile Legend among grade-12 male
students of Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig, the researcher would like to suggest the following
