Introduction and Overview

The ePIC provides a way to store and retrieve data logger historical records.
Information is stored as integer data in a first in/last out buffer. When a new data
record is added, the existing data moves one position down the buffer. The buffer
contains 240 records. When the buffer is full, the oldest record drops from the
buffer when a new record moves into the buffer.
The controller supports eight independent loggers. The minimum record interval is
one second and the maximum interval is approximately 18 hours (65535 seconds).
All data is averaged over the record interval with a sample rate of one per second.

Data Logger Setup

A great new addition to the controller feature list is the capability to log or store
any RPC parameter data. This data is “logged” at one-second intervals and then
accumulated for viewing in hourly averages and daily averages. Hourly averages
are stored for the previous 24 hours and daily averages for the past 30 days. This
feature can be used to track or monitor any parameter in the controller. Up to eight
parameters can be logged. Refer to the Parameter Listing for a complete listing of
the controller parameters.
If option 9, Data Logger Setup, is chosen from the Setup Menu, the Data
Logger Setup menu as shown in Figure 1 is displayed.

The cursor, which can be moved with the <Up / Down> arrow keys, indicates the
active item. Press <MODIFY> to edit or modify the selected item. When a
subordinate modification screen appears, make any necessary changes to the item
on the Enter New Value line. When complete, press <ENTER > to return to the
Data Logger Setup screen with the new information displayed or press <EXIT>
to abort the process. Eight channels are provided to “log” or store any RPC
parameter data.
Use “freeze channel” to select the channel to display under View Data Æ Hourly /
Daily Logger Data.
To “clear” all channel buffers and the “freeze channel”, select “clear log buffer” and
press <ENTER>. Changing the “source parameter” of a channel does not “clear”
that channel buffer.

Hourly Logger Data

Any controller parameter can be “logged” using this function. Up to 8 channels are
provided to log data. Data from the selected “Freeze channel” is displayed. Setup is
done under Setup Menu Æ Data Logger Setup. It is possible to store and view data
such as maximum/minimum loads and casing pressure (or any external I/O data).
Data is gathered and stored each second and then made available to users either as
hourly or daily averages. Refer to Figure 4.
If option 7, Hourly Logger Data, is chosen from the View Data Menu, you may view
hourly average values from any of the 8 logger channels that have been previously
configured to store a parameter’s information. This setup is accomplished through
the Setup Menu Æ Data Logger Setup as previously described.

The cursor indicates the active item. Only one item can be accessed – the “freeze
channel” selection. Press <MODIFY> to change the channel selection. When the
subordinate modification screen is displayed, you can change the “logger channel”
information to be displayed. When complete, press <ENTER> to return to the
Hourly Logger Data screen with the new information displayed or press <EXIT> to
abort the process. Use the PgUp and PgDn keys to move between the three screens
needed to display all 30 days of stored data. If a “Freeze channel” has not been
selected, the screen will display a “Logger Not Frozen” message.
Pressing the F2 key switches the display from Hourly Logger Data to Daily Logger
Data.

Daily Logger Data

Any controller parameter can be “logged” using this function. Up to 8 channels are
provided to log data. Data from the selected “Freeze channel” is displayed. Setup is
done under Setup Menu Æ Data Logger Setup. It is possible to store and view data
such as maximum/minimum loads and casing pressure (or any external I/O data).
Data is gathered and stored each second and then made available to users either as
hourly or daily averages.
If option 8, Daily Logger Data, is chosen from the View Data Menu, you may view
daily average values from any of the 8 logger channels that have been previously
configured to store a parameter’s information. This setup is accomplished through
the Setup Menu Æ Data Logger Setup as previously described. Refer to Figure 5.

Logger Parameters (P890 – P897)

Data Logging can be turned “on” by assigning a Parameter number to the Logger.
Data Logging can be turned “off” by changing the assigned Parameter number to
zero (0) for that channel. These parameters control all eight data logger channels.
Table 1 displays the options for this parameter.
