Mastering Maths in Year 1

This week Mrs Durkin and Miss Dhillon held a Maths workshop for Year 1 parents. The meeting
was focused on maths mastery with ideas shared on how best to support children at home.

Teaching maths for mastery involves employing approaches that help pupils to develop a deep and
secure knowledge and understanding of mathematics at each stage of their learning, so that by the
end of every school year, pupils will have acquired mastery of the mathematical facts and concepts
they've been taught.
Silver Stars
We were delighted to present one of our highest possible awards to two Year 6
children in our Celebration Assembly today. Many teachers have noticed that Danny
quietly supports those around him and sets an excellent example of both
determination in his work and through his kindness to others in school. Abisola has
also been noticed by many as also has a quiet, determined approach and always
aims to make the correct choices. She is a very good role model for others.

Both children received Silver Stars and were congratulated by the Bronte School
family!

Remembrance Assembly
Our Year 6 children today held an assembly where we remembered all those whose lives have been
affected by conflict, both past and present. We learnt about the many different ways people (and
animals) were involved in conflict and most importantly Year 6 highlighted the bravery and
selflessness exhibited by so many ……………… leading to a message of hope for our future. The
whole audience were impressed at their delivery and sensitive handling of the subject matter. Very
well done to all who performed and put together such an informative assembly.

'For the fallen’

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Active Stacking – report by Mr J

On Thursday of last week, twelve children from Years 3 and 4 went to Cobham Hall for the Active
Stacking Tournament. This tournament tested the children’s ability to create pyramids and towers
with cups, combining skill and speed, along with testing their team work and pace with some
relays. Our Year 3 team finished in 5th place and our Year 4 team just missed out on the gold
medals, finishing in a very commendable runners up spot! Well done to all involved, keeping
Bronte School’s run of finishing in the top 3 of every Take Pride event this school year!!!

UK Parliament Week
This week was UK Parliament Week
and we took part by holding our very
own whole school ballot. The class
MPs were busy registering their
cohorts and checking that ballot
papers had been completed
correctly. Once again, our hall
became a polling station and children
got to experience their British Value
of Democracy.

Following the voting, the MPs gave a

short talk about what voting means
to them and why having a democracy
is important. The Year 6 MPs along
with our Head Boy and Head Girl,
then spent their morning breaktime
frantically counting the responses to
a variety of questions that focused
upon pupil wellbeing. This will
provide us with important
information about how we can
continue to provide an
environment in school where
children feel valued, celebrate their
successes and are prepared to try
new things. Our thanks to Mr
Hardwick and our Pupil Parliament
members for organising this
important event.
