Specific Learning Outcomes:

The learners should be able to:

 State and Explain Newton’s Three Law of Motion
 Analyze day to day situation base on Newton’s Three Law of Motion
PHYSICAL SCIENCE TEACHING GUIDE
INTRODUCTION (5 MINS)
Present the learning objectives and competencies for the day session. PRACTICE (25 MINS)
Ask students previous knowledge on the following terms to be encountered
a. Motion
b. Acceleration Newton’s First Law of Motion which is also known
c. Mass as the Law of Inertia.
d. Inertia
e. Interaction
f. force - It states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless an
external force acts upon it (dynamic equilibrium). Similarly if the objects
MOTIVATION (10 MINS) is at rest, it will remain at rest unless an unbalanced force acts upon it.

POE Activity:
Give the Learners the pieces of a puzzle and let them form picture. Let them
observe and explain what is in the puzzle.

INSTRUCTION / DELIVERY (30 MINS)

1. Before going into the laws of Motion by Newton it is important that the
learners understand how the laws have been understood/described.

2. Discuss the Three Law of Motion. Provide real-life situation/Scenarios as

examples for each law. These must be situations which the learners can
relate with. Engage learners to analyze and explain the scenarios using their
understanding of the laws of motion.
Real Life Example Situational Analysis:

- You are in the playground you saw a soccer ball stock on the ground,
which is in the static equilibrium state. However in just a blink of your eye
the ball that you are looking at changes its place.
- Using Newton’s 1st Law of Motion what do you think is the reason behind
why there is a sudden change in the direction of the ball?
(Note: The ball is in static equilibrium state)
PHYSICAL SCIENCE TEACHING GUIDE

Answer:

- The ball will not change its place if no one or nothing moved it from being
at rest. It is in static equilibrium if the total force acting on its zero. For a
ball that is resting on one place to another the ball receives a normal force
by the surface and gravitational force of the earth which it sums up to
zero. Since the ball change its place then it must be resting somewhere
else. 

Newton’s Second Law of Motion which is also

known as the Law of Acceleration.
- When the total force acting on an object is not zero, this causes the
objects to accelerates. The larger the mass of the object the greater the
force will need to be the cause it to accelerate. The mass of the object is
inversely proportional to its acceleration.

Real Life Example Situational Analysis:
Question to the students:

- When you are driving on a 10 wheeler overload track have you ever
wondered about the fact that cars in the other lane seems to be getting
ahead faster than you?

Answer:

- Another way to state the Second Law of Motion is to say it takes more
force to move a heavy object than it does to move a light object. Simple
right? The law also explains deceleration or slowing down.

Newton’s Third Law of Motion or the Law of

Interaction.

- Newton’s Third Law of Motion states for every action, there is an equal
and opposite reaction. In other words, in any interaction, action and
reaction forces are always of equal strength but towards opposite
direction.
-

Real Life Example for Situational Analysis:
- When you slap someone you hand feel pain as well as the cheek of the
victim. The pain in the cheek is due to the force or action exerted of the
pain. One example also is when you jump, your legs apply a force to the
ground, and the ground applies equal and opposite reaction towards you.

ENRICHMENT (25 MINS)

- Cite another context in real life where Newton’s Law of Motion are in
action. Give a situation/scenario as captured in a phot/situation for the
learners to analyze. The additional context presented here is on public
safety.

Question:

Using Newton’s Law of Motion, Explain Pedestrian

Safety Tips, cause danger to an individual who steps/
walks if taken for granted.
