Collaborative Intelligence: Humans and AI Are Joining Forces
Summary
This article gives an overview of how humans and AI are combinedly effecting the performance
in companies. It talks about different methods on redesigning the business process and how to
use the collaborative intelligence effectively. It focuses on the crucial roles the humans should
perform (Training, Explaining and Sustaining) and the tasks machines should perform
(Amplifying, Interacting and Embodying). The problems of business process activities like
flexibility, speed, scale etc are analyzed and few recommendations are given on how they can be
solved on collaboration.
Critical Review
The huge rise in demand for AI is creating reasonable fears about replacing human workers in all
fields. It can be said that AI’s greatest impact will only be on augmenting human capabilities.
Humans and AI can only complement their strengths only when they work in collaboration. But
when AI is deployed, long term productivity gains are not met. It is important for companies to
understand how collaborative intelligence will help in redesigning business processes.
Redesigning the business process involves activities like examining the functional departments
of the organization. With new analytical tools the invisible problems will come into limelight and
the solutions can be provided through AI.
Companies must coordinate with their stakeholders for their introduction of AI systems. This is
because it will help in providing some naval approaches which helps in further improvement of
the process. By providing customized information and guidance and with individual tailored
brand experiences, customers are able to take better decisions.
Implementing AI techniques in organizations is giving rise to fusion skills which is all about
making employees effectively work at the interface. It involves giving jobs, combining their own
skills and responsibly using the AI skills. In the future, it may be expected that jobs will be more
organized based on skills rather than on job titles.

1. With the help of collaborative intelligence customers can be clustered and future
behaviors can be predicted. This included providing high personalized product
recommendations.
2. AI will bring a huge change in the domain of search engines. Over the years, our quality
of the search experience has improved a lot. Many ecommerce websites like Myntra,
Jabong etc have introduced AI in their search engines after they observed its success in
Google.
3. By considering a wide variety of data into account, the prices of the products can be
determined and even can be optimized with the help of AI.
4. It will also help to perform sales forecasting. AI will further help in estimating demand
for the product.
Scope for Improvement
1. AI in Robotic process will help people to focus on the important functions of their job
while the routine functions are left to the machines. It is expected that jobs like welding
and bomb diffusion will be blanketed.
2. It will benefit the field of Data Analysis. AI can help in recognizing certain patterns
which may be impossible for humans. This will benefit the business because right
products are targeted for right customers.
3. AI in cybersecurity will help in prevent hackers. It will be possible to scan a huge number
of instant transactions and detect frauds and thefts in initial stages only.
