CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Going through a teen pregnancy is probably not going to be easy. Being a pregnant teen
can be overwhelming, confusing, and scary. There are around 500,000 pregnant teens every
year. Sometimes, “challenge” can be an understatement through women are able to give
birth as soon as they begin menstruating, there are some possible rise when you have a child
early on in your teen years. Teens in general, have a higher risk of preterm birth. Which often
goes along with amount of nutrients (such as in prenatal vitamins) during pregnancy. Regular
prenatal visits can help to reduce any risk and prepared the young mother for a great
pregnancy, birth and postpartum period.

Teen pregnancy can excuse a lot of changes, such as mood swings, fatigue, and change
in what you can or cannot do. Mood swing can cause tension in any relationship, and it’s
made worse when you feel that can’t control it. This emotional rollercoaster is fairly normal
during teen pregnancy, it might be a good idea to have conversation with your friends, family,
and /or boyfriend and let them known that these mood swing may happen occasionally, also
find some activities that help keep you even tempered. Some examples are slow breathing
exercise, going for a walk, etc. going through a teen pregnancy with your boyfriend can get
trickey, especially if the preganacy was not planned. It is because of you both first time of
experience and no idea how to survive or deal with. If you are early/ new in your relationship,
you may not already have a solid foundation to fall back on.

But as we see from the situation nowadays, what were expecting from the youth is the
country if the saying. Teenagers are prone to pregnancy. Almost every year there is a rapid
increase on the number of pregnant youths. One of the major causes of this problem is that
most of the ypuths nowadays grew up in broken homes. Parents either the father or mother
of the youth chose to leave their children behind because of the fact that they cannot handle
anymore their obligation as parents.

The records of the city civil registry office showed that there are 161 cases of teenage
pregnancy in the city from January to June this year. A survey by the CPNO bared that cases of
adolescent pregnancy can be traced to poverty, broken family, sexual abuse, influences of
pormographic materials, and peer pressure.
