INTRODUCTION:
Discuss the learning objectives and recap the previous discussions
MOTIVATION:
Provide health problems to do students and let them decide whether they prefer the
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE or the MODERN MEDICINE.
1. Stomachache
2. Cough
3. Pregnancy problem
4. Fever
5. Toothache

INSTRUCITON/DELIVERY:
Divide the class into two and let the class. Each group should discuss and portray
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE and MODERN MEDICINE respectively.
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE relies more on herbal and natural treatments. Explanatory
models may include mystical, personalistic, naturalistic and viral/bacterial causes.
1. Mystical causes are often associated with experiences or behaviors such as
retribution from ancestors for unfulfilled obligations.
2. Personalistic causes may be attributed to social punishment or retribution by
supernatural beings such as an evil spirit, witch or mangkukulam (sorcerer).
3. Naturalistic causes include a range of factors from nature events (thunder,
lightning,drafts, etc), excessive stress, incompatible food and drugs, infection, or
familial susceptibility.
4. Bacterial/Viral causes are the existence of increasing number ofpeople who are
already swayed by the power of science. The concept virus and bacteria hence, of
infection and allergies, and poisoning.
MODERN MEDICINE relies more on scientific studies and researches to supplement
the necessary prescriptions for the patient. Doctors are given specialties to target the
particular illness of the patient such as neurologist, cardiologist, OB-gyne, and etc.

Ask the students:


1. Should the society dictate the medical preference of the people? Why or why not?

PRACTICE:
Is it necessary to accept both traditional and modern medicine in our society today?
Why do you say so?
EVALUATION:
Using CLAIM-EVIDENCE-REASON:
Do we have a better health system today? Why do you say so?
