 This year, I am interested in pursuing the field of finance as a topic
of study. More specifically, I would like to be better acquainted with
the job of a financial manager. A main goal of mine this year is to be
able to better predict and analyze financial trends by learning how to
manage cash and investments.

Throughout my life, I have always been working with numbers. As

early as the 2nd grade, I became involved in math competitions as a
part of Aloha. This program allowed me to increase my math skills
and solving math problems, and working with numbers became more
fun once I was able to quickly solve the problems. In addition, I was
an avid sports fan who watched and played both football and
basketball. As I grew older and realized that I will not become a
professional athlete, I realized that I could still be a part of the game
without actually playing and that was by getting involved with the
business side of the sport. In the NBA and NFL, I observed how team
organizations spent their money on players and other aspects of the
team that generated more revenue. I am currently and have been a
member of DECA which gave me experience with real-world business
scenarios involving business. Also, I am a member of the Alpha
Business Cub which will teach me how the stock market works and
how to make smart investments. Some courses that I am taking
related to finance are dollars and sense which teaches me how to
manage cash and planning put budgets. Another course that I am
currently taking is an online class on Coursera that is called
“Introduction to Financial Accounting” offered by the Wharton
Business School at the University of Pennsylvania.

All my life, I have been working, analyzing and solving many problems
containing problems. As time went on, I was able to learn new ways
to solve problems and choose the most efficient ways, which helped
me become a faster and defter critical thinker. This trait will help in
the finance field by being able to conclude the best ways to
maximize a company’s profits. In addition, my experience with DECA
has helped me become more accustomed 04 to the various problems
and decisions that professionals go through all the time.
 Because of this, I will be better prepared for what to expect if I am
presented with a similar situation. In addition, the Alpha Business
Club will equip me with the essentials needed to understand and use
the stock market. Understanding the stock market is essential to
finance as I can then have more ways to increase revenue and
manage cash. Along with those clubs, the Dollars and Sense class
will help me get introduced to the banking and accounting side of
finance. With this knowledge, I will be more well rounded and have
general knowledge outside of just one specific type of financial
manager. I understand that this field will involve times where I do not
succeed and others where I do. However, having been through
multiple ups and downs in my life, I have learned to persevere through
the hard times while also not taking the success for granted.
