REPORT ON WORK IMMERSION

The Department of Education (DepEd), in support of its K-12 program, mandated academic
institutions that offer Senior High School (SHS) education to implement work immersion programs.
Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A Senior High School student has
to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal.
Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed to and become familiar with work-related
environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence. Specifically, the stu-
dents are able to: (i) gain relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry ex-
perts and workers; (ii) appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught
in school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills; (iv) enrich their skills in communica-
tions and human relations; and (v) develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect
for work. These prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of employment or higher education
after graduation.
The SENIOR HIGHSCHOOL (GRADE 11 & 12) of TIPAS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL was
approved last September 26, 2017. It currently offers academic tracks: Accountancy, Business and
Management (ABM) and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) and TECH VOC specializing in
hairdressing to meet the needs of our students under the K to 12 program.One of the most important
requirements of this K to 12 curriculum is the Work Immersion Program for SHS grade 12 which
aims to develop learner’s life and career skills, and prepare them to make decisions on post-
secondary education or employment. Through partnership building, DepEd hopes that the Partner In-
stitutions will provide learners with work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experi-
ence, and additional learning resources.

The LGUs and industries partners were likewise oriented on the K to 12 Program and SHS
Modeling to ensure their awareness of their roles and responsibilities in the modeling program.
The following are the important matters disclosed in the meeting:
1. Establishing strong and sustained partnerships with LGUs, industries and HEIs to help provide the
needed assistance for the Program;
2. Undergoing on-the-job (OJT) training programs of Grade 12 to accommodate all students;
3. Making the program accessible to indigent students by strictly implementing a “zero collection”
policy;
4. Giving consideration and flexible timeframe to students who are deployed in OJT program to
comply with requirements and
5. Using real life scenarios, skill-oriented learning and treating students as adults to motivate and
challenge them to do well in school.
The Work Immersion is a hands-on experience or work simulation in partner institutions, busi-
ness organizations or establishments whose work requirements are related to their specialization. The
program also aims to develop in students the knowledge and skills that contextualize their specializa-
tion exit outcomes and provide students relevant learning experiences by giving them the exposure to
the actual workplace setting.
Students were deployed to various companies/ institutions where they were immersed and ex-
posed to the work environment and were given tasks of the company department where they were as-
signed.
