➢ Concept of learning resources

Learning resources are the materials, that teachers used to assist students to meet
the expectations for learning defined by provincial or local curriculum. Chalk,
duster, board, model, chart, audio-visual aid, videos, software, text, library and so
many instructional materials are the example of learning resources. They are any
tool that helps teachers teach and students learn.

➢ Types of learning resources

There are mainly 2 types of learning resources-

▪ Traditional learning resources

It is old learning resource. It helps to improve learners accuracy but it is
less effective than digital or modern learning resources. For many people,
the words educational materials invoke images of large, print, classroom
text books with small type, outdated information and content that covers
the breadth but not depth of a subject. But traditional learning resources are
more than that.
▪ Modern /digital learning resources

It is more effective than traditional learning resources. Here are five different
types of resources-

A. Simulation: This resource aids teacher’s explanation and allows

learners to test out their ideas and experiment.
B. Animation: This can demonstrate processes which are difficult to
describe or show in two dimensions.
C. Quiz: This resource allow learners to test their own
understanding and gain feedback promptly.
D. Electronic textbook: This is very important and useful resource
for learning. Every learners can access a copy of the relevant
resources.
E. Learning object: This resource has been designed to meet
specified learning outcomes and can be incorporated into and
reused in a range of learning materials.

➢ Concept of learning resource management

Learning resources management strategies are important component of successful

academic learning. Most learning organisations need to manage the resources
required to offer learning. Resource management addresses these business needs
by enabling you to define and maintain your resources, such as materials,
equipment and facilities. To manage resources, first set up resource types for
classification and searching purpose and define special accommodations and
holiday schedules. Then define the specific resources that are available for use
when creating and scheduling classes.
➢ Objectives

There are so many objectives. They are as follows:

▪ Improved development and utilisation of quality assurance (monitoring and

evaluation) systems for provision and utilisation of learning resources.

▪ learning resources development and distribution systems at regional and

divisional levels.

▪ Improvement of instructional and learning materials system through

support for the assessment, acquisition, adaptation, development,
production and distribution of teaching or learning materials to schools.

▪ Digitised available student learning materials, particularly for reading in

the early grades and TLE programs, English, science and mathematics in
other grades, ADM and ALS.

▪ Enhanced provisions of quality instructional and learning materials,

particularly in reading in early grades.

▪ Modified and enhanced instructional and learning materials for

implementing alternative delivery modes and learning systems.

▪ Development of ICT-enabled solutions in the three regions, integrated with

national systems to support the strengthening of the learning resource
support systems.
➢ Application& management of learning resources

Traditional learning resources

▪ Printed text book, work book, work book, reference book: These are produce to
meet the need of educators, usually at educational institution. Work book or
work sheet is used for home task and student's participation.

▪ Manipulatives :Math lessons are a common classroom application of

manipulatives because they easily allow students to physically apply the
concepts of addition, subtraction and multiplication. For example, students
could 'play store' with 'money' that they create in a separate class project. Allow
them to decide on what type of store it will be and let them bring things of their
own to 'sell' or allow them to create the products, which remain in the classroom
when the lesson isn't in progress.
▪ Flash cards: Flash cards are a simple, versatile, yet often underexploited
resource. I would like to offer some reasons for using flash cards and a selection
of activities for use in the young learner classroom, although some of the
activities could also be used with fun-loving lower level adult classes.

▪ Posters: It’s an effective way to catch and hold the attention of pupils or students
as well as maintain their interest in the subject. It can motivate students to learn
a specific topic. It can helps learners to focus on a certain idea, fact, event or
process.
▪ Workshop: when students want to gain their experience about something new,
then workshop helps them properly. It can apply in higher education or training.

▪ Magazine: Magazine are a wonderful supplement to classroom instruction.

Students are exposed to a wide variety of texts and lots of interactive content.
From stories, poems and action rhymes to non fiction, crafts, puzzles, and
games. It can apply on lower to higher class.
▪ Periodicals: It can use on research work. Periodicals isused only for higher level
of study.

▪ Laboratory: Laboratory should be use for all science practical work and
geographical work on secondary level to higher education. To increase the
knowledge of science subjects, lab work is must.
▪ Models: Some preliminary observations may demonstrate some of man's
motivation for using models. It is also use for the visually impaired students
because they can touch the model and identify the shape of this thing. It will
help them to learn properly. It is also used for lower to higher level of education.

▪ Maps: Using maps in the classroom invites curiosity, encourages, exploration

and inspires problem solving. It can be used to explore a multitude of topics and
can incorporate visual learning, spatial thinking and quantitative skills into a
lesson. It can used in geography class in primary level to higher education level
for normal classroom.

▪ Atlases: Atlases show geographical features, the topography of an area’s

landscape and political boundaries. They also show climatic, social, religious
and economic statistics of an area.

▪ Library: Library is to help every member of school, community, students, staff,

families to gain new knowledge, skills and dispositions for learning and
personal development that they will use throughout their lives.

Modern or digital learning resources

• E-book-book& E-library: These are help people to find any kind of book
in online through many apps. These are very helpful to working people who
aren’t able to go to school or college everyday. In research, e-book & e-
library are help researchers to find literature reviews and many books which
are not available on market.

▪ Online workshop: It is used for online training programs.

▪ Digital board: In every smart classroom digital board is used. Not only smart
classroom it is also used in distance learning classroom. It is like station's
announce board where everything is stored.
▪ Apps, Website, Software: These help us to download or search everything in
online. we can make own website and save important data which help us later.
We can read a book through Kindle app in online. These things help us to our
online study.

▪ Online courses: when someone not able to go for regular study then he or she
chooses online courses like graphic designing, big data analysis, online MBA,
programming, foreign language courses etc. These are time saving courses.
Most of the online courses have shorter duration that regular courses and you
are awarded with certification on completion too.

▪ DVD, CD, PPT: These are used in classroom and also used in seminar
presentation. These are useful for school, college and university too. Student,
who is unable to understand quickly, these things can help him or her properly.

▪ Movies: It is non formal education. Many historical situations are recreated by

movies. It helps students relate to the history as well as any other subjects.

▪ Webcast: Webcasting is a new instructional technology used to deliver audio

and video presentations via the internet, enabling learners to participate in a live
class via personal computer.

▪ Podcast: It contains a massive library of podcasts, audiobooks, live streaming

radio and more. It even has support for YouTube and Twitch channels. The app
also features variable playback speed, skip silence options, Chromecast support
and SONOS support.

➢ Advantages of learning resources management

▪ It easily tracks learner’s progress and performance.
▪ It reduces learning and development costs.
▪ It reduces learning and development time.
▪ It keeps organisations up to date with compliance regulations.
▪ It quickly and conveniently expands e-learning courses.
▪ It integrates social learning experiences.
▪ It organizes e-learning content in one location.
▪ It provides unlimited access to e-learning materials.

➢ Limitations of learning resources management

▪ It is may be a ‘solo act'.
▪ It has possible lack of control.
▪ The disadvantages of instructional materials are teachers don't know
how to use them to maximum effect.
▪ The disadvantages are not knowing what to use and what to teach from
the material.
▪ It has lack of appropriate time.
▪ It has lack of proper infrastructure of institutions.
▪ It has lack of teacher’s initiative.

➢ Comparison between traditional learning resources management

&
Digital learning resources management based learning

Traditional learning resources management Based learning

▪ It tracks learner’s progress and performance very slowly.
▪ Increase learning and development time.
▪ Increase learning and development costs.
▪ It is monotonic.
▪ It is used for normal students.

Digital learning resources management based learning

➢ It tracks learner’s progress and performance very easily.
➢ It reduces learning and development time.
➢ It reduces learning and development costs.
➢ It is interesting.
➢ It is used for mentally weak students.
