THE HUMAN PERSON FLOURISHING
IN TERMS OF SCIENCE &
TECHNOLOGY
Denotative definition of “Flourish”
to grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous
way, especially as the result of a particularly
favorable environment.
Different Scholars/Philosophers that studied the
science of Human Flourishing through S&T:
1.Martin Heidegger
Proposed the Quantum Relationship of
“Technology” and its “User” (He is not against
technology but he is against the grave abuse of it)
2. Karl Marx
Introduced the “Unity of man and nature”
which deals with the oneness of primordial decisions
and technology.
3. Aristotle
Stated that each human being should use his
abilities to their fullest potential and should obtain
happiness & enjoyment.
4. Thomas Bancoff
Introduced the Science and the Human
Person as a Working group. (They are somehow
interdependent in engaging traditions and the secular
things)
TECHNOLOGY AS A WAY OF
REVEALING
Martin Heidegger said that heeding to
technology could brought you to the whole realm of
new and aspired technologies as very essential to us
as Human person.
 Challenging modern Technology
Things are revealed or brought forth by
challenging or demanding them. If we want to delve
in to several technologies, we must demand for it and
we must put it to nature that it is our unreasonable
demand and purposely.
 Technology as standing in reverse
For Heidegger, there are things that are
revealed in modern technology as “standing in
reverse”. Things as standing in reverse are not
“objects”. Objects, on the other hand, are things that
“stand against us as things with autonomy.
 En-framing as “essence” of modern
technology
En-framing simply means putting into the
frame of modern technology everything in nature.
This frame of modern technology is the network of
interlocking things standing in reverse.
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AS
HUMAN FLOURISHING
Human Flourishing is defined as an effort to
achieve self-actualization and fulfillment within the
context of a larger community of individuals, each
with the right to pursue his or her own efforts.
Different ways and methods to simply make Human
Flourishing:
1. Marxian Alienation: on a modern context
Marx argued that to achieve true human
flourishing, we as individuals must first overcome
the different mechanisms of alienation in order to
express our full humanity in relation both to nature
and humans.
2. The introduction of YUPPIE
EUGENICS
Eugenics simply refers to the study of or
belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of
the human species or the human population,
especially by such means as discouraging
reproductions of immoral acts confining the human
flourishment.
3. 2nd mechanism of Alienation (Marxian
Principle)
 the 2nd mechanism of Marxian Alienation is
that of the act of production, in this case, the act of
reproduction. Why do we humans reproduce? The
Marxian critique would be the genetic intervention
of living allows the act of reproducing individuals
become impersonal and benefit-driven.
4. The 3rd mechanism of Alienation (Marxian
Principle)
The 3rd mechanism of Marxian Alienation is
that between man and the species being. The species
being was a term coined by Karl Marx on his belief
about its closest meaning to human nature. Marx did
not believe on the Traditional theory of human nature
but introduced the theory of “human nature” that was
representative of the sum of social relations.
5. The 4th mechanism of Alienation (Marxian
Principle)
The 4th mechanism is the representation of
“other” human beings. The alienation that results
from the labour and production of material items
essentially subordinates human interaction between
things.
8. The pursuit of Goals for Human Person is a
necessity
On the other side of the wall, though we may
find several alienations to be more profound on our
society nowadays, it is also very necessary for us to
share some goals. We must pursue goals that are both
rational for us individuals and as human being.
Whereas, the former will vary depending upon one’s
particular circumstances not the latter common
distinctive nature.
CONCLUSION
Through S&T, humans develop the
flourishment they need in may different things they
should delve in it could be moral, technological,
societal, humanitarian, potential and even vision-
pinned. That is why flourishment can be achieved in
reality if a man recognizes and adheres to the reality
of his unique personal endowments and contingent
circumstances.

6. The Human Person’s dealing with a

“collective”
Marx added that in order for us human to
fully actualize on ourselves, there’s a great advice for
us to interdepend and even interconnect with a group
of people of a collective. For him, it is very necessary
for us to delve in to different things that others are
doing on a solitary manner but it is not that advised
for us to construe a profound negative actuation that
they are doing.

7. Showcasing Human Person’s potential

For Aristotle, different human has its own
different potential, can be through talents, thoughts,
and performance and all of those must be showcased
in order for us to fully actualize and have that virtue
in the pursuit of out freely and rationally chosen
values & goals.
