2200 Series 17 Issue 1

Fan Drive Bolts July 2014

This Service Letter is a Product Improvement Program (PIP) for the checking of the torque of the fan drive bolts
on certain six cylinder engines, model TG for the affected product that is listed in table 1.

Notes:
This program must be administered before the problem has occurred.
The campaign number is C14/050.
The termination date for the campaign is the 25th July 2015.
The information supplied in this Service Letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.
Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your
Perkins product support representative.

Problem
There have been a number of isolated instances of issues with the tightening torque for the fan drive bolts. In
some cases the fan drive bolts may have a lower than expected torque applied.

Repair Time Schedule

The total labour allowance will be one hour.

Solution
1 Disconnect all electrical supply systems to the engine and the control systems.

A
2 Remove the protective cover (A1) on both sides of the engine in order to gain access to the fan drive. Refer
to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for more information.

3 Check the fan drive bolts (B1) to determine if the bolts are the correct torque. Ensure that the fan drive bolts
are tightened to a torque of 100 Nm (74 lbf/ft) 10 kgf m.
4 Install the protective cover (A1) on both sides of the engine. Refer to the OEM for more information.
5 Connect all electrical supply systems to the engine and the control systems.
