Teaching comprehension through the use of dictionary and educational movies is one of
the teaching techniques use long time ago, yet its impact has not been out-dated in a far flung school like
Kilangi Elementary School. In a school not accessible to internet, dictionary and DVD player prove to
help a lot in the reading comprehension of the pupils.
The school has one big dictionary. So big that it is not enough to cater the 20 to 30 Grade six
pupils. Their fear to ruin that big dictionary hinders them to use it time to time. They have been
instructed to buy their own handy dictionary but not one-eighth of the class has responded. On the other
hand, DVD players are common to each household but it is not use as a tool to augment the learning of
the pupils but mostly for the entertainment of the family.
The access to handy English-Filipino Filipino-English dictionary can add to the pupils’ interest
in reading. This is so because they can already comprehension the meaning of their unfamiliar words. In
addition to, pupils can play with words through spelling contest with their pairs.
DVD player will serve the same purpose as it is very useful to reinforce the lessons in the
classroom by playing educational movies and other audio instructional materials. Moreover, the talents
of the pupils in dancing and singing will be developed further because it will be easy for them to
practice during school programs, or they can plan music for dancing or singing during their free time.

4.0 Project Impact
This project will bring a great impact to Kilangi Elementary School specifically to the Grade VI
pupils. The realization of 30 dictionaries and a DVD player will be a great help in the reading
comprehension of the pupils. Furthermore, making ribbons allow them to develop their art of
craftsmanship. This skill also opens them a venue for entrepreneurial activities in the near future.
This project also brings empowerment to the pupils and their parents. The parents are
empowered to participate in the education of their young children; the pupils are empowered to use their
craftsmanship and claim a sense of ownership to the output of this project.
In the long run, the realization of this project can be a good example to other grade level. They
too have the potentials to come up with a worthwhile income generating project.
